A much nicer day at the track. It was still cool and overcast after the morning rains, and I had the track to myself. Still taking it relatively easy (not many actual sprint reps) since I'm just getting ramped up for the season.

After, I dropped off some things at the city's electronic recycling day and at Goodwill. Felt really good to get rid of stuff.

Mike and I went for a short bike ride together. Topics of conversation included the Texas school shooting, Navigation Games and Cristina, Oringen podcast, and the Lawrence housing market.

Quick run at Sunflower Nature Park on the way home from work. It was nice to get out after sitting in conference rooms for 2 days. However, I had a headache and it was hot, so I kept it short.

The mowed areas are different than mapped, so it added a bit of challenge to my route choices.

Cycled to and from the middle school track. First track workout of the season, so I took it pretty easy. I also practiced a few variations of my standing start, trying to get more power and efficiency.

There was a family at the track also: mom, dad and little boy (maybe 8-10?) The mom told me that the kid had a bad start in his sprint yesterday (AAU in Iowa, serious stuff) and they wanted to practice more today. The kid was wearing ankle weights to make it a bit harder. The dad was an asshole. He yelled at the kid the whole time, very berrating remarks. The kid started crying and dad just yelled more. He started running alongside the kid to push him harder on each rep. It was very upsetting to hear, but what could I say? Nothing.

But what I did do was give some signals to the kid when he was facing me and his parents had their backs turned. Once I just smiled and waved (this was early, before dad started yelling). And later I gave him a thumbs up and a smile. Don't know if either helped, but it was the best I could do.

I actually cut my training a bit short and left because I couldn't take it anymore.
