I was working at home and I wanted to go orienteering at lunch time. But not in any of the places I have been going all summer. I wanted someplace new-ish.

So I looked through our files and found some Centennial maps from 1993 (field checked by Mook!). This was the first year I was dating Mike, wonder if I ran these courses then?

Any way, it was just the right amount of exercise and brain-training to run on an outdated map.

Eclipse Day!

We live just a little bit south of totality, so I knew I had to drive north to experience it in full. I made plans with some coworkers to have a picnic lunch at Watkins Mills State Park. When we arrived, I decided to try to orienteer (I had brought the map). But all the side trails were really overgrown, plus it was pouring rain, so I just stayed on the paved bike path.

When I returned, the rain stopped and the clouds cleared just enough for us to watch the first half of the eclipse. And then it was completely clear during totality. The diamond ring was great! The whole experience was amazing. I particularly liked watching the light change as we approached totality.

And then, right after totality, the clouds came back. We were really lucky with the weather. We sat around eating and drinking for awhile, until some heavy storms rolled in. Between traffic and weather, it took us three hours to get back to work (only took 1.5 hours to get up there).

cycle 50:00 [2]

Mike and I went for a ride after dinner. It was still too hot and humid, but it was nice to be out together.
