Mike and I went to the adventure race at Fort Leavenworth. I decided to try my first adventure race, since I knew this would be an easy-to-handle event. I also decided to have fun, and do the activities that were novel (to me) first, then do the O if I had time. Unfortunately, they had to cancel the canoe portion of the race; that would have been fun.
I decided to start with the brain teasers, so I could be fresh. The first was to assemble a wind-up toy, but made from a million little pieces. I sat in the car to stay out of the wind:

Then I ran around the lake picking up a designated number of letters. When I got back, I had to assemble the letters into a two word phrase. I struggled for a bit, until they gave me the hint that it was military term. So I started with "w-a-r", and eventually got to warrior. But "ethos" was harder.

Then it was on to the bike to pick up markers 7 and 13. You could stop at 8 and perform the paintball section. This was fun, this is the first time I ever shot anything (stuffed animals, in this case):

Since the paintball area was a transition area, one could leave the bike here and go pick up some of the foot markers (3, 4 and 5). Then back on the bike for the last few bike O controls:
And finally, I had to get the last three foot markers:
When it was all over, I had completed my fifth Ft Leavenworth Outdoor Adventures event, so I earned my jersey:
