orienteer 1:25:00 [3] 5.14 km (16:32 / km) +146m 14:29 / km

Mike and I went orienteering in Harriman, while Bernadette, Susan and Patrick went for a hike. This was so much fun! I re-ran part of a course from 2004. I deliberately tried different routes, and I tried to beat my original split time (I had saved the splits in the map case). I did a pretty good job of beating my original times, which was good. I did make one 180 degree mistake leaving 4. After 5, I decided to head back, by going back to 3, then the start triangle.

Some parts of the woods were really crappy and covered with blueberries. But other areas were wide open, and I had lots of fun running through the woods.

Original route was drawn on map in red pen; new route was added from GPS.

Note

Dad's memorial service. An emotional day, with some tears and some laughs. First we had a Mass (that was hard to sit through, mostly because of my current feelings about the church) then we had lunch reception. Nice to visit with 14 of my cousins, some of whom I had not seen in 30 years. Most poignant moment was when an Air Force honor guard came and folded a flag, played Taps, and presented the flag to my mom.

Long travel day, starting way too early. Long enough layover in Nashville to get a manicure. Landed in Newark, then stopped at Campmor (it's a tradition). Then we went for a hike at Mountainview Park in Nanuet. Small park, but lots of climb. The descent was a bit scary since I was wearing my travel sneakers and not my O shoes. Felt good to move around in the fresh air and beautiful woods.

Planned to exercise when I got home. But work has been incredibly stressful lately, and I had to do laundry and pack for our trip, so I just didn't feel like exercising. A rare day when I didn't follow my weekly plan.

Heading to NY for my dad's memorial service. I'm also pretty stressed about that. All around, it's been a pretty rough couple of months. I'll be glad when this weekend is over.
