Kansas Senior Olympics, 50 meters
Time = 8.78
My first ever 50 meters race, so this is a PR :)
I warmed up well and told myself to just push it hard. But when the gun went off, I hesitated and got a bad start. And I never felt that I was pushing as hard as I could. I did get distracted during the race (see below) but I had already set the tone before that happened. I had hoped to break 8 seconds, but it wasn't in me today.
During the race: I was in lane 3, and two other women who had beaten me in the 100 meters were in lanes 4 and 5. (The woman in lane 5 is one of those wonder women: aged 59, not a drop of body fat, perfectly sculpted, muscular arms and legs. I want to be her).
Any way, during the race, the wonder woman in lane 5 fell,into lane 4. That runner had to hurdle her. As a result, they had both dropped behind me. I was startled to realize that I was going to break the tape. I had never won a heat before, and very few of my races have even had a tape. Since this is a rare feat and probably won't happen again, I had to buy the photo. (Photo credit: Heavenly Visions Foundation, which takes at-risk kids and teaches them photography).
