Training camp in Laramie. About 10 folks are here, all from RMOC except for us. Mass start today, but I wasn't ready, so I started a few minutes later. Had to walk today, due to altitude and so much sage. Not to mention a 1:15 map!! hadn't been on one of these in years. Also, my goal for this weekend is to train, not race.

I haven't been in the woods since April, and my map reading is always pretty rough when I have had a long absence, so my goal was to spike the first control, which I did! After that, it was a bit uneven. I was definitely reacting to things rather than reading ahead and being prepared for what I would see. I got a bit better at reading ahead during the middle of the course, but then started to fade back to reactive towards the end, as I got tired.

I wore my GPS but some how didn't save the track, so I had to resort to the old fashioned method of using a pen to draw my route. (click on square)

Wanted some more training, so I did a short line O by myself. Walked very slowly and checked out the map detail. Still managed to make two mistakes, and after the second one, I decided I was too tired, so I cut the route short.

Nice cool day at Clinton. Mike and I went out together, but split up right away. But later, he went around Land's End and I cut up the hill, so I was ahead of him. After he caught up with me, I tried to keep him in view for awhile, but it didn't last long. I went out with 8 jog/2 walk, turned around just before 1 hour, and came back with 7 jog/3 walk repeats. My legs felt fine.

Nice afternoon stroll at the Arts and Craft Fair with Sandy, then neighborhood block party in the evening. I could do this every day. Why do I have to go to work tomorrow?
