Another HTFU day. Sandy and I went to the Riverfront park to do the course that Mike had designed. It was 25 degrees with a 25 mph wind. We got out of the car and started on the course, when I noticed that the maintenance building wasn't there; we were at the wrong parking spot (parallel error). Sandy wasn't really into training today, and the brief exposure to the wind took away her motivation, so she decided to just go home (we had driven separately). I figured I was already there so I might as well do some of it.
So I drove to the correct parking spot, and started. Boy, I should have worn face protection! The wind was fierce. But it forced me to keep moving at brisk pace. feet got wet on the trails (breaking through the ice over the puddles) and then got wet again crossing the stream near 4. That might have affected my brain; I completely missed 4 (and didn't know it until I downloaded my track).
The route to 5 did not look fun on this windy day, so I decided to just head to 6 instead. I was happy that Mike had hung tapes at 6, 7 and 8 for me (although I never found the tape at 8). It was fun to run through flat woods, and also see how my compass skills are coming along.
I was pretty cold and hungry, so I decided to stop after 9. My face was glad to get out of the wind and back into the car. Still, a fun day.
