Local PTOC event at Blue and Gray. Wonderful day, 55 degrees and sunny. Also fun to bring two new international visitors from Lawrence. Met Tom from the Netherlands and Jenny from Finland for the first time today, as we gave them a ride to the event. Fun conversations during the drive, plus at lunch with Gene after the run.
My plan to day was to take it easy (I have a slight cold) and concentrate the whole time. I give myself a C. Was trying to act cool in front of other folks as I breezed in and out of 2, and promptly went off in the wrong direction. Fortunately I caught myself pretty soon.
Was fairly confident of where I was as I approached 4, but was thrown off when Gene and I reached a big gully and there was no marker. I should have stopped and re-considered; I couldn't be that far off, since I was very confident just a few seconds before. But instead I did my usual jump to conclusion that I had gone too far, and I back tracked. Then wandered some trails for awhile, before coming to my senses at the top of the hill. Complete bone headed move.
Did OK on the rest of the course; it helped that the course was pretty easy today .
