I hate waking up early on weekends, but the weather left me no choice. I went to Clinton and did my 8/2 repeats on the trails. I usually run on the upper trails, but I could tell they hadn't been used much (way too many spider webs) so I went down to the lower trail. Saw several trail runners and bikers, who had kindly cleared the webs for me :) Felt OK running, and was even able to jog up some inclines, so there is visible progress. Felt a few twinges in each knee, however, which is not good. Needed two water bottle to stay hydrated on this run.
Made it home just as Andy was starting the time trial. What an exciting race today, and a fanatastic finish to the Tour.
Based on my observations,a nd discussions with my trainer tonight, I think most of my knee problems are due to tight quads. I've gotten lazy about stretching lately (especially during vacation) and I think it has caught up with me. But at least it's easy to fix.

Rode my bike to the arboretum and did some O practice (another control circle course). This will count as my O for the week, although it's just on the edge of being legit, since I walked it.
Why did I walk? Because both my knees were achy when I woke up, it was already 85 degrees when I started, and there is almost no shade in this park. The control circle training works best when I'm running, and a bit out of breath at each control. But I was not going to do that today; some times you just have to be prudent.
And I also have to be practical about my goal to orienteer at least once a week. Summers in Kansas are just miserable, and my O options are limited. So, this will have to do. Fortunately, I can count the US Champs as my O for next week, so I don't have to try to find something to do locally for a while.
