Local O race today. My knee has been hurting a bit lately, so I decided to drop down to green instead of red.

Not a good day. My mind was not in it, and I made lots of small concentration mistakes. Also, did not feel like pushing the pace as I slogged through the crappy woods.

This was a pleasant surprise. We had a Thanksgiving pot luck at work, and I overate and I was still full when I came home. Plus it was cold and dark, and I really didn't want to go out. But the weekly training plan called for a 50 minute trail run, so out I went.

I decided to run on the lower trail for a change, and that was a good idea. I felt really good right from the beginning. Part of it was the fun of exploring a trail I don't know so well. Mostly though, it was easier because this section of the trail is relatively flat and has fewer rocks. I hardly ever looked at my watch, and the time flew by. Fun.

Back to Harriman (Surebridge). This time the plan was to run an O course, some of which I ran in 2007, some of which were control sites I just picked.

Good practice in concentrating and relocating. I was confused leaving 2 (I now know I was in the wrong place to start) because the hillside was all open grass now. Decided I was somewhere else, and went too far out of my way to relocate. I kept thinking I would find the big trail. It was covered in leaves, so I didn't see it when I crossed. But once I found the start of the trail, it was easy to follow. Disappointed that I did not have the confidence to stop relocating when I knew I was in the general area.

After that I calmed down, mostly. Hard to move through the blueberry sometimes, I'm not used to hills and rocks, and I had to keep an eye on the time (so Mike wouldn't be waiting too long). All were distractions.

But it's always good to practice in Harriman. Beautiful fall day. Glad we went.
