Ah well, the best laid plans don't always work out. Actually, I did fairly well for 10 of my 11 controls.

But everything fell apart on control 10. I did the opposite of everything I had planned. I was supposed to stop, count to 10 and look at my map if: I saw Mike, the terrain wasn't what I expected or I had just climbed a big hill. I totally ignored all of those.

I did remember those rules earlier in the course, just not when I needed them most. Note to self: you are not in shape and you will get tired, even on a 3K course. Your brain will stop functioning. Bring energy drinks and take a break.

I was so disappointed in myself today.

Redeemed myself a little bit on the afternoon sprint. No major mistakes, just slow.

I have the opposite issue than Cristina. When she gets tired, she chooses the around route. When I get tired, the only route I can see is the straight red line. So I chose some less than optimal routes today. But no major meltdown.

Sprint at Forest Park. I did what I planned. Stopped a few times to take a long look at my map. So I had a pretty clean run. Slow compared to others Comparing routes with Gene and Mike, I can see that I lost 2 minutes on inefficient routes to 2 and 8. Such is the nature of sprints.

Nice use of small forested section of the park.

Consistency:15.9%
Time lost: 3.6%

Note

Getting excited about the road trip to St Louis. It's so rare to be packing up the car for an O trip. And we have a good contingent of OK/PTOCers attending, including some A meet "virgins". It's going to be a great weekend.

O goal is simple: consistency. No major blow ups. Recognize when things are hazy, stop and consider.

Plan was for a 40 minute continuous jog tonight. Couldn't quite make it, mostly due to trail conditions at Clinton. Total sloppy mud. The kind that sticks to your shoes like concrete. Walked a bit to warm up, then jogged on the trails to the inlet. Had to walk several times. Bailed out to the road and open fields. It was more fun to run around and around a field than to stay on the trails. Mike joined me for the last few minutes, which was unusual and fun.

Legs are surprisingly tired.
