orienteer race 1:52:40 [4] *** 7.0 km (16:06 / km)
ahr:153 14c

Local meet at Burr Oaks. It was so nice to finally run on a map other than SMP! Of, course, the woods are crappy, so "run" is rarely possible for long. Eric S set some long tough courses, with plenty of opportunities for me to deal with my fear of steep gullies.

I wasn't too pleased with my general flow; sloppy getting in and out of controls. I did OK on two things: not thinking about running (most of the time) and stopping to relocate when that little voice in my head started talking. Made two errors, both times running too fast on trails. I was physically dead by #13, so I made a mistake on 14. Overall, a mixed effort to start the new year.

Consistency: 17.3 Time lost: 5.4%

orienteer (map hike) 50:00 [2] **

at SMP after work. Took it easy tonight, to give my knee and legs a break. Although I had to run fast at the beginning to warm up--it was COLD. Used the course from the recent score O, and wandered around to a few controls.

ski 1:20:00 [2]

Skiing at Platte Ridge. The wind blows hard up here, so there were areas of deep drifts (and some bare patches). More of the cross country trail was marked with blue flags, so I was able to ski all around without ever double-crossing my tracks. There are mile markers along the route. The one closest to the parking lot is 2 miles (of three). Today I found the mile 0 marker, in the middle of no where, as far from the parking lot as you can get. Weird.

run (woods) 30:00 [3]

orienteer 20:00 [3]

I marked a few controls on the Wyandotte map, and jogged around. Main purpose was to move through the woods. Only ran on a trail once, to avoid the worst junk. When I found a nice patch of woods, I ran back and forth along the contours. Saw two bald eagles soaring, and three in a tree.
