orienteer race 1:09:10 [4] *** 5.5 km (12:35 / km)
ahr:157 11c

Local event at Kill Creek. I decided to do the green course, because it gave the best options to avoid the grassy fields (filled with grass over 5 feet tall). Legs felt a bit stiff in the beginning--too much sitting around this week :) Pretty clean, one minor bobble on route execution (mixed up some trails). Got very tired towards the end. Beautiful day in the woods.

Note

Updated my log for the weekend, and added routes to RouteGadget (to the best of my recollection).

Note

Things that went well for me this weekend:

1. I did not panic under pressure at the start of day 1. I knew what I had to do, and I moved well through the first few controls.

2. After I made a disasterous 30+ minute mistake on C5 day 1, I was able to put it behind me and finish the course without any additional major mistakes.

3. I was able to forget about day 1 as I started day 2.

4. I was able to make myself stop, and truly relocate, on day 2.

5. After day 1, I did the right things to help my body recover physically (eating, drinking, resting, etc.)

6. The weather and scenery were picture-postcard perfect. I made a point at the start each day to just look around and enjoy the view.

7. I visited with a lot of great people.

8. I won

Note

I have mixed emotions today. I did not do well at the US Champs. I did not follow my plan for relocating. I was not fit, so I got tired and made mistakes. I did not orienteer to the best of my ability. I finished more than 1.5 hours behind peggyd after two days. I'm very disappointed in my performance.

And yet, through an unlikely series of events, I am the 2007 F40 US Champ. I met my goal; I won. Isn't life funny ????

run/walk warm up/down 20:00 [2]

orienteer race 1:37:40 [4] *** 5.8 km (16:50 / km)
ahr:152 13c

Day two: I was not so happy at the start. Yesterday, I stood at the start and thought "I can do this" (which was totally wrong, but at least I believed...) Today I stood at the start and asked: Can I do this? So, of course, I had problems with the first contol. But at least I admitted right away that I needed to bail out to the road, which I did.

Similar situation on a few others (3, 4, 9) where I had to admit that I had missed the control. I made myself _stop_ and truly relocate. Overall, a slow and sloppy run.

Only fun part was having Peter, George and Swampfox blow past me around 10-11, which helped pull me up the hill to 11 faster than I would have otherwise.

Not at all happy with how I orienteered this weekend. See routegadget.
