weights 15:00 [2]

Another day of unpacking and cleaning, so I'm counting it as "weights" today.

I'm starting to bond with this house. I especially like the view as I lie in bed: all I can see (out of the three! windows) is a small portion of the neighbors roof, and tree tops, tree tops and tree tops.

walk 30:00 [2]

Spent 12 hours working on the house, which included many trips up and down three flights of stairs, so I'm logging some training time.

Very productive day: painting finished, cleaning service gave an estimate, cable outlets and internet hooked up and new garage door opener installed.

Note

Moving day. Long and tiring. I had forgotten how much stuff we had. I must have 50 boxes of fabric alone. It's going to take awhile to unpack. But at least we have newly painted walls to enjoy right away

(injured)

Working on some stuff at the house tonight.

Got a preliminary result on the MRI: the plantar fasciitis is back. WTF? Scheduled to talk to the doc on the 5th now (phew!). In the meantime, I'm cleared for walking only. Thought about the pool, but it's closed for the annual shutdown until August 17th.

Gives me time to unpack, I guess.

cycle 30:00 intensity: (7:00 @1) + (11:00 @2) + (12:00 @3)

Mike and I rode to breakfast first, then I rode on my own afterward. Still getting used to everything: sore muscles, tired buns, how to shift, how fast I can go and still feel comfortable.

Note

Yeah, we own the house! So happy.

cycle 20:00 intensity: (10:00 @2) + (10:00 @3)

Fun ride after work. Mike came with me, which was great. Nice to have a training activity that we can do together.

Note

An eventful day.

First, an MRI on my foot. Heel pain went away a few months ago, but then returned. Doctor and I were both baffled. Hope the MRI will solve the mystery. Unfortunately, follow-up with the podiatrist to get results not scheduled until August 10th.

After work, stopped by the house for a final walk through. Previous owner left some good things (cleaning supplies, spare lightbulbs) and some useless things (ugly curtains, wall art). House looks bigger when it's empty :) One more day !

Finally, to the shop to get the bike, a helmet, a lock and a bottle carrier. First time I will wear a helmet while riding----it's been that long since I owned a bike :)

cycle 15:00 [2]

Rode the Trek again and decided it was the bike for me. The Giant might be a shade lighter/quicker, but something in the geometry of the Trek fits me better. Right now the bike has heavier road tires; I can always switch to lighter/smoother tires, once I feel more comfortable riding around.

Followed by a great burger with Gene, Raymond and Mike. Fun evening.

Only 2 days to go !

(injured)

Was going to go to the pool after work. But I didn't.

PT 1 [0]

Four days to go

Sunday Jul 19, 2009 #

cycle 40:00 [2]

Tried three bikes today:
Trek 7.2 FX
Specialized Vita
Giant Dash (aka FCR3)

Narrowed my choice down to the Trek or the Giant. Very subtle differences between the two. May need to ride the Trek again before I finally decide.

Very strange to take the week off--it was actually harder than I thought. Kept wanting to go out and move around, or at least row a little bit. And a big surprise to me--this is the first week with no training since I started logging on AP.

Therapist was glad to hear I'm taking the week off. I was, too, until I weighed myself tonight. Have to be careful.

PT 1 [0]

I've decided to take the week off, to give my foot a rest. I will still do PT (stretches and strength exercises). Mentally it also feels good, to give myself permission to do nothing this week.

run/walk warm up/down 8:00 [2]

orienteer race 22:24 [3]

Local sprint at JCC. Walked a bit to warm up, then started the course with repeats of 1 walk/ 7 jog. Legs were tired, but foot felt OK. O was really rusty. Hot and sticky. Good company on the drive to the meet.

PT (office visit) 1 [0]

Back to PT today for electrostimulation, ultrasound and deep tissue massage. Also got a new treatment: iontophoresis. Whatever it takes to finally knock down the nagging aches and pains. Therapist suggested that I stop running until the tendinitis calms down; doctor said I could run with the brace. Don't know what I'll do.

cycle 25:00 [2]

With the exception of Oringen 2004, I haven't ridden a bike in about 25 years. But now that I'm living in a bike-friendly town with bike paths everywhere, it seems I _must_ have a bike. So I tried out two models tonight. One was comfortable and kinda slow; the other was kinda uncomfortable and fast. Which one do you think I preferred?

walk warm up/down 6:00 [1]

run/walk 24:00 intensity: (3:00 @2) + (21:00 @3)

Stopped at Broken Arrow park on the way home. Started walking to warm up, and playing Seek n Spell on the iPhone. It was not as interesting as I hoped; the map area is too small, and couldn't be expanded. I put it away and went for my run. Body felt OK overall, so in Peter's ODAAT scale, it was a good day.

erg 20:00 [2]

A bit of rowing while watching TdF. By the end, my foot was hurting more than usual. Maybe I did too much tonight. Good thing I decided (earlier today) to go back to PT. At the very least, they can give me new exercises. And the ultrasound and massage should help me heal faster.

I never know what to expect when I get to the pool. Last week, the diving well was filled with divers, kids practicing racing starts and scuba divers (that was weird). And tonight, I had the place to myself almost the whole time--just a few dives by two people. It was n ice.

Note

Finally jumped on the band wagon. Three pairs of Innov8 arrived from Zappos today. Two for me, one for Mike. Finally got him to use Zappos. although I actually placed the order :)

walk warm up/down 9:00 [1]

orienteer 21:19 intensity: (3:19 @1) + (18:00 @3)

Again, did my intervals on a sprint course from two weeks ago. Much more pleasant than straight running. Foot felt OK most of the time; leg muscles were very tired by the third rep. So out of shape.

orienteer 30:04 intensity: (15:04 @1) + (15:00 @3) 3.0 km (10:01 / km)
(injured)

I'm starting to get bored with running my intervals on the grass between parking lots. So I decided to do them on the Arboretum sprint course today; it's always more fun to orienteer.
5 walk to warm up
3X 1walk/5 jog
7 walk to finish the course

This was a chore tonight. Legs were completely dead, for some odd reason. Oh well.

walk warm up/down 5:00 [1]

run/walk 20:00 intensity: (4:00 @1) + (16:00 @3)

Tried running on the grass again. My tendon/foot has been feeling better since the doctor adjusted my orthotics, but this was the first time I tried to run with the brace. Can't tell if it helped or not. Certainly didn't hurt. The brace is very ugly and a pain to put on, but it has a very cool name: Swede-O.
4X 1 walk/4 jog
