PT 1 [0]

My foot was hurting a lot today (more often, not more painful). It was not the heel or the PF, but along the inside of my ankle towards the arch. After careful reflection on my recent activities, I figured that it was probably my Achilles. I have been doing PT, but I've been skimping a bit on the balance and stretching work. I also stopped wearing my night sock. I think the achilles is weak from lack of use, and I must have tweaked it recently.

So I did some web surfing, and figured out how to use kinesio tape for Achilles tendinitis. I put the tape on, and viola! instant relief.

So the plan for the next few days is lots of RICE and PT.

Note

I happened to be in a Dick's Sporting Goods store the other day, and I noticed that the "in" color for women's wear was: hot pink!

Normally I wouldn't go near it, but with the new OK tops, how could I resist? I went back today (with a top for color comparision) and bought hot pink running shorts. I also got a great deal on a winter Under Armor shirt on sale (also hot pink!)

No need to look for markers in the woods this fall--just look for me instead :)

walk 30:00 intensity: (18:00 @1) + (12:00 @2)
(injured)

Intervals of three minute stroll, 2 minute power walk. My foot has been hurting more than usual lately,so I took a day off yesterday. Didn't help. So I tried walking tonight. Seemed to loosened up as I moved. Afterward, it is a bit tight, but no worse than yesterday. Guess the lesson is to keep moving (slowly).

aqua jog 20:00 [3]

The pool was _filled_ with kids at swimming lessons, but no one was using the diving board, so I had the diving well to myself. Although the first life guard told me I had to leave (I promised her I would move out of the way if anyone wanted to dive) and the second asked if I could move to the lanes (probably because he was bored). But the schedule says the diving well is open till 8:30, so I was not going any where. At least, not until my 20 minutes were up :)

while watching the NCAA lacrosse championships. Very exciting, but also very ugly for Cornell. An unusual school that begged students to attend basketball and football games (for free) but charged admission for hockey and lacrosse.

aqua jog 25:00 intensity: (5:00 @2) + (20:00 @3)

It's been waaayy too long since I did this. Got a monthly pass to the indoor aquatic center at Free State HS. The diving well is much bigger than Park Hill (eelgrassman, you were not exaggerating). I could do bigger "laps" even while avoiding the end where the kids were jumping off the diving board. Much bigger complex and more people in the lap lanes than Park Hill.

Note

We're celebrating with Champagne tonight! It's been a long and stressful journey (18 months since Mike first interviewed for the job) but worth it in the end, of course. Plenty of room for guests; come on by!

orienteer 20:00 [1] 2.0 km (10:00 / km)
(injured)

walked around part of the sprint course at JCCC. Sprint courses are pretty boring when you're just strolling on through. Took it slow and easy since I was still sore from yesterday's walk, and I haven't been on uneven surfaces lately. Didn't really concentrate on O at all; my mind was all excited thinking about the house we just offered to buy. Nancy helped me "celebrate" by giving me four packages of Peeps; she must have been influenced by Cristina's comment :)

Back to the podiatrist. She didn't make me hop this time, but did push, hard, in a few places on my heel. No pain! She agreed with the back-to-running plan laid out by my physical therapists. One last follow up visit in one month (mostly to check on the orthodics--still not absolutely perfect).

walk 25:00 [1]

on the bike path right outside our unit. Made it to 6th and K-10, then turned around. Mike passed me on his way to Clinton.

Spent some time exploring open houses around Lawrence. Looked in areas I had never been before, saw some interesting things. Like a washer and dryer 20 feet apart in the basement?!?

PT (office visit) 5:00 [0]

Graduation Day at PT, after seven weeks. They gave me advice on how to ramp up my walking, and when to start running. Also gave me a plan to follow, once I start to run. Plus lots of stretches and exercises to continue on my own. I feel well prepared.

Note

The house was cleaned, last junk removed, papers were signed and the money is in the bank. Sold!

Note

Moving day! Much less stressful than yesterday.

Some of today's activities
*hauling trash and mixed recycling to the curb
*opening doors for moving crew
*buying cold drinks for the crew (no fridge)
*watching the crew put everything in storage
*packing the last stuff that always remains
*exploring all the great storage in the new apt
*changing my AP location
*taking a nap

Everything went smoothly in under 6 hours, which included a lunch break and one hour drive to Lawrence.

We brought very little furniture to the apt. But we included the land boat, of course.

some of today's activities:
**get car inspected because it's due for renewal in MO even though I'm registering it in KS later this week
**rent a storage shed
**pack some boxes
**empty the fridge
** throw away some junk
**donate frozen food to neighbor
**pack some boxes
**hire handy man(who's other job is wedding catering) to haul away large file cabinet
**throw away some junk
**laundry
**return library books
**pack some boxes
**sign the closing papers for our end of the deal
**change homeowner and auto insurance to KS
**throw away some junk
**unhook the fridge and watch someone haul it away

so glad we only do this every 10 years or so. How do military folks, current (Cristina et al) and past (my parents, who moved 17X the first 20 years of marriage) handle it?

When I first got in the pool, there was a young girl (maybe 10?) practicing synchronized swimming (to the Hawaii Five-O theme). She was pretty good. How does someone that young get sucked into such an odd sport?

First doctor-sanctioned weight bearing exercise since March 1. I felt like an Old Lady, in my brand-new-very-white-designed-for-walking shoes, with orthodic insoles, power walking around the cushy HS track in the outside lane.

Kind of a weird day. Did house stuff, couldn't use the pool, meant to do weights and PT. But I didn't. Lots of sleeping, reading and watching the goofy pre-event stuff at the Derby instead.

Added more strength exercises at PT tonight. Also did 4 minutes on the ellipse, which was tiring. I'm so out of shape.

House inspection today went well. Now I finally believe we're moving.
