orienteer race 27:09 [4] 2.7 km (10:03 / km) +2m 10:01 / km

Sprint 1, Columbus urban

Legs were really tired, but I did a nice long warmup, so I was ready to run as fast as I could.

Woo, this was fun. Lots of fun buildings, alleyways, etc. I felt pretty good, and I enjoyed the feeling of racing a sprint on an unknown map. I was with Shin and a woman for a lot of the middle f the course, which messed me up a bit. I have to get better at ignoring people. I had planned to leave 12 to the north, but they both went to the south. I had a hard time reading all the walls on the run (crossable/uncrossable). I also convinced myself that the way to the north was blocked, so I stupidly followed them and lost a lot of time.

Pushed hard towards the finish and then had a total brain fart. I passed the two Go controls, but somehow thought they were the finish controls. Went way passed them before I convinced myself I was wrong (seeing the big building in front of my was a bad sign). This was a huge mistake.

But I was really pleased with how well I ran most of this course. And I had lots of fun. I only wish I had taken a few seconds to appreciate the buildings as I passed them (they were all just gray blobs to me :)

Sprint 2, Columbus parkland

I spent the 2 hours between races sitting with my legs up, but I knew it was no good. My legs were fried, and there was nothing left in the tank. This was an easy sprint and I didn't make any time mistakes (according to AP) but made some questionable route choices. From 2 to3, I never saw the option of running through the yellow, and instead, walked through the mud and muck along the pond.

I pushed as hard as I could, but I was running in slow motion. I couldn't even sprint in the finish chute :)
