WHW Race - Crew for Rich Bannister

Kinlochleven to Finish in Ft Bill.

Such a shame for Rich, he was flying for first 30 miles, in 9th place then fell, smashed his knee off a rock, and the ongoing compensation on the other knee made things harder and harder.

He dug in all the way to Glencoe, managing to fight his way through torrential rain and 60mph winds. Johnny joined him here after he'd had 30 mins rest and hot food and coffee in the café, they slogged over the Devil's Staircase in shite weather, more heavy rain and high head winds.

I took over from KLL, Rich was still in good spirits but he was walking way more than running, only managing to jog the downhills a little.

A few more prolonged spells of rain and that constant headwind made life awful but he soldiered on.

Once past Lundavra he struggled further on the single track, and once it got dark he was down to 30mins/mile at times. I used my big O headtorch and it helped us during the last 3:30 hrs of the walk back, good to know it can last that long on lowest setting.

Poor guy was just broken, body clock sending him to sleep on his feet. He couldn't eat, wouldn't eat and I had to force feed him bits to try and get some energy in him.

His girlfriend joining us from Braveheart car park for last mile was a welcome boost to us both.

Finished in 24:44:46... I wasn't expecting 6:30 for 14 miles !!! Only just had enough clothing and food.
