Bicycling 24:00 [3]

Today I met by phone with our main contact at Newton Country Day School to start planning for our May 4-5 program with 61 9th grade girls. Also she thought they could do something for WOD.

We will be teaching 12 PE classes for WOD at CSUS!

Also biked to the high school for a recruitment fair for the summer program. Ethan did the bulk of this work, setting up a table and collecting names. Our high school orienteers helped out. I made contact with 3 other programs that we might be able to work with for one day during the summer.

I found out Tuesday that we are accepted as a worksite for the summer again - which means the city will pay the teens' wages for 6 weeks, and provide a counselor who works with us to teach kids general career skills. Unfortunately, we did not get the $3000 grant we got last year to pay for staff. So we will need to be raising that money, probably via an online donation drive. Stay tuned.

We have made progress with a sponsor organization to bring Isak over on a J-1 visa to work as a counselor at our summer orienteering camp. The paperwork has been submitted to the State Department.

Note

Over the past few days we've arranged to work with all 7 PE classes at a middle school (6th-8th) in Cambridge for World Orienteering Day. Presumably that's around 140 kids. Our contact is the Phys Ed teacher; I've worked with him before, offering an elective on orienteering.
Also, it still sounds like there will be a preschool orienteering on WOD, and I'm still hoping for another middle school, possibly a Community School, and then of course there is a CSU park-O!
