Last night we held a meeting for the teachers for the spring Cambridge orienteering classes. Registration is open for 11 after-school classes (grades K-5) and 2 in-school electives (grades 6-8). Here are the teachers:
- Jason, a NEOC member and parent
- Mike, an outdoor educator with little orienteering experience but lots of experience working with kids and outdoor sports
- Sarah, a trained educator and social worker from Germany; not familiar with orienteering
- Geoff, a NEOC member, Izzy's godfather
- moi
We will base our classes on the lesson plans that Erin drafted. We need to adjust them for the younger ages, and had a discussion about that last night. As much as possible we want to make everything into a game. (Like introductions, for example.)
Classes run April 27-June 19. We could still use volunteers as assistants and substitute teachers.
We also have some interest in summer programs - I've received two requests so far. I definitely need help with that because I will be out of the country for some of the program.
I have realized I'm not super comfortable leading this alone and would really like to have at least one partner, or even give over the administration to a professional, and then focus on helping develop the content, and playing a supporting role. So - I'm out of my comfort zone for the time being.
