Orienteering 30:00 [4]

relay terrain. v. fun. I was supposed to try and confuse the teams. Jake kindly said later that I had confused him. I had fun and ran fast sometimes. And once I barked and tried to make weird noises. Whatever.

Running 22:00 [2]

All this food. Was supposed to lose weight on this trip. Figured I'd better start running.

Note

Rogaining committee meeting was held 6/10; next one 6/24.

The agenda for next meeting:
* Hear back from Francis about North American champs 2013
* St Louis & AZ rogaine dates (Vladimir and Peg were going to work on this)
* New chair (done! Thanks, Bud!)
* WRC updates including mapping
* Events around WRC2014 (Peg was going to email some of the people who might put on events)

On the topic of NARC2013 possibly being Francis' rogaine, got this email from Francis:
We have taken note of Vladimir's request regarding the NARC 2013. We approached public and private organizations to have access to a base camp. It must be said that the coniferous forests of the Laurentians were devastated by the weight of the snow this winter. It is not easy to find a decent base camp considering the situation and our modest finances.
On one hand, few participants are registered for the 24-hour event, while entries for the 8-hour event are well underway. On the other hand, we must consider that the majority of our volunteers are seniors who need their sleep and never did orienteering. It is a big load of work for very few participants at the end...

On the topic of shoulder events to WRC2014, we heard from Will Hawkins:
You should be aware that the Canadian championships carnival is being held in Whistler and Savona, BC. Website at http://coc2014.ca/ . There are three WREs involved (on Aug 2, 4, and 10).
Also, CTOC is holding a sanctioned A meet (bid for US ultralong champs) Aug 2-3, 2014 in Idaho City, ID, and RMOC have submitted an application for a 2-day classic event, slated to be the US classic champs, for Aug 9-10 in Woodland Park, CO.

Some notes from last call:
* We voted to sanction the CNYO bid for US champs.
* Vladimir spoke with St Louis club in April; they were planning to bid on the North American championships to be held March or early April 2014. Eric Buckley will be the course setter.
* Vladimir reported that Get Lost!! will apply for US champs for September 2014, 3 weeks after WRC2014. Venue not definite yet; several options.
* Peg reported that there may be a rogaine in AZ in the spring; Vladimir and Peg agreed to work with St Louis to figure out compatible dates. Land access is an issue.
* Additional rogaines to solicit?
* Other orienteering events around WRC2014 to attract those who travel to the USA from afar. Idaho is trying to put together PNWOF, though Idalho is a 14-16 hour drive. WY, CO and MN closer. Laramie Daze usually happens in late August. Peg
* Postcards for WRC2014 can be brought to Europe by Eric Bone (attending WOC) and Barb Bryant (JWOC, Karst Cup, Bubo Cup, Croatian 5-day, possibly the Italian 5-day)
* Various discussion about WRC 2014, including insurance, confusion about if and why IRF would impose limits on the number of attendees, event center location, map. Rick will forward emails about the cap on numbers of teams.
* Chair of rogaining committee
* Eric reported that MergeO has no 24 hours events on the horizon. They did a 10 hour race near Sprague in the spring, on private land. They'll do an 8 hour in October, and probably one in August.

Administration 2:00:00 [0]

Frankly I've lost count and my logging of this activity is about to get very very spotty.
Did some gardening today and yesterday; Dave and Addison and I moved the pots around to their final positions for the season. It's all ready for Suzanne to come and take over while we're away in Europe.
