Hanging controls, walking around with the kids, and control pick-up, 8am to 1pm

I forgot to bring the compasses, and realized once I started hanging controls. So I called around and got my neighbor to retrieve them from my house and bring them to the school before the bus left. Yay for neighbors!
This is the third year I've done this particular field trip with this teacher. The field trip has two parts. First, teams find controls using a route they plan ahead of time, and kids on the teams play roles that they've decided ahead of time. Team controls are coin envelopes hanging from flagging tape; the envelopes contain puzzle pieces, and the puzzle points to the location of a prize. Along the way, there are several controls where the entire class meets up to check in and debrief. We talked about teamwork halfway through; one team didn't agree well on their plan, and got a little separated, which was frustrating to them. They regrouped and worked together well after that, and talked about their experience in our final debriefing session.
After lunch, we run a white course. Usually we do this with electronic punching, but it was a slight hassle to get NEOC's epunch equipment this year, so we went with old-fashioned pin punching. I figured at least they had experienced e-punching at the A meet last fall. I did have at least one disappointed kid on that front. They took the white course pretty seriously, speed-wise, which was a lot of fun to watch. And they cheered for each other.
