Orienteering 40:00 [1]

urban orienteering practice set by Ross. It was Geoff's birthday, and we convinced him to come out and do it with us. Isabel was at swim practice so she didn't come. I told David he had to come. I don't make him go orienteering that often. It was cold, and snowing. David was really pissy about it. He wanted someone to go with him. He wouldn't read the map. He didn't want to run or even walk fast. He complained a lot about how cold he was and how he couldn't see past his hood and how his jeans and boots felt. He got really mad at me when I jogged ahead to catch up with Geoff. When I waited for him he yelled at me and stuff. Not too pleasant. I was reminded of his dad's outbursts, which is one of the things I do not miss. I didn't do anything to try and make David not be mad; maybe I even goaded him a little more. I ran ahead again, so he'd stop trying to hit me. When he caught up I told him he needed to calm down and just deal. Eventually he got past his fit and was perfectly pleasant. Hormones, or genes? Either way I am feeling glad that he's going to grow up and move away or calm down or both.

We skipped a few controls to somewhat keep up with Dave. We also visited Dunkin Donuts, which we designated control 8 1/2, and where I bought David a hot chocolate. He got mad again though when he burnt his tongue.

Geoff had a fine time on the course, and we all came back home for some birthday cake and fine tea.
