Magic purslane:

This purslane just grew in an empty pot; we planted no seeds; no other weeds grew; and it's gourmet salad fare.

Tonight I made ratatouille from an eggplant, 2 tomatos, two orange bell peppers, onions, sage, rosemary, basil, thai basil, and hot pepper - all from our garden!, plus zucchini we'd dried a few days ago, plus a little tomato paste, and garlic. It was tasty. Had it with couscous. I figure I could dry all those ingredients and mix them together for one evening's meal on the trip.

Note

Janet Tryson was in my dream! I showed up at an orienteering meet all full of energy and ready to orienteer, immediately following some rogaine, and she offered to put me up for the night so I tried following her through a crowded city but lost her...

Bicycling 1:40:00 [2]

Out to Arlington and around. Went by George's house & picked up the Algonquin park naturalist books he'd left for me. Checked out his vegetable garden and a nearby forested park where I...

Running 10:00 [1]

... went running and thought how mappable this little park is for kids' O. Sutherland Woods, I think it's called.

Note

15/17 (goal: 12)

Last few days I have not made my points.
And yet, the point system is still changing behavior, even when I don't achieve the daily goal.

Orienteering 56:00 [3]

1st 4 controls on long course. From 2-3 I was trying to use mind over matter about the FDFs; from 3-4 they won and I decided to bail.

Running 45:00 [3]

Running like mad and then later walking along the long and winding trail back to the parking lot once I bailed on the orienteering. I hit myself in the head a lot trying to kill the FDFs, just as Ross reported he had done; I had laughed at the thought of him looking ridiculous doing it. I tried waving a stick with leaves behind my head. Didn't help too much; just moved the flies down to bite my ass and thighs through my tights, which surprised me. So then I was hitting myself in the head and on the butt, running down the trail as fast as I could and waving this stick around, all at once. Still, got my "run fast" point in...
This experience would have been unbelievably pleasant and gratifying if we'd jut had the sticky hats...

However, when I was orienteering, the orienteering was fine - and I didn't have to take a plane anywhere to have it. Especially nice was hanging out with Brendan, Ross, Ed, Pia, Mark, Dave, Clem and Audrey Hepburn.

Bicycling 20:00 [3]

Errands around town in the cool evening.
