Note

I'm psyched about the updated OUSA website and marketing campaign around WOD. A lot of people worked on it: Bob Forgrave, Dave Yee, Ken Walker, Mary Jo Childs, Kris Beecroft, Janet Tryson, Pat Dunleavy, with help from Cristina, J-J, Ethan, Vilppu, and others. The vendor doing the website work was Jacob Hodara of IDL Web Inc.

Through this project, OUSA provided clubs with a draft WOD press release, and IOF provided a lot of material to help with ideas for WOD. The tech team decided to use the AP event database: clubs put their event info there, and the OUSA website has a front page section showing the next 3 events with a link to a page Ken set up for us, a variant of the AP map event view, but with links going directly to the club websites (if provided).

The ideal cycle:

Clubs connect with local schools to create WOD events.
Clubs adapt the press release and notify local news outlets.
Local news outlets pick up the story (cool stuff! get kids outdoors with maps - and by the way, families can attend upcoming public events), driving readers to the OUSA website.
The OUSA website now has links to local events as well as a (fixed) map of local clubs, sending folks to club events.

Now we just need clubs to take advantage of this great opportunity!
