Relay Champs. Started in the mass start, everything was great for the first half, it wasn't too hard and the four of us (dvoa/chicago/mnoc) were all together the whole time. Then on 9-10 I made it halfway, got confused counting how many lake inlets we'd been by, got all messed up by the random tent platforms that were maybe or maybe not mapped, and wandered around for a couple minutes. Oops.

night-o champs. a couple inches of snow on the ground, which was mostly mud anyway, so footing was pretty awesome. only actively snowing for a couple minutes, otherwise just dark and cold. mostly just jogging, and made some pretty sweet mistakes.

Easy rest ski. Back to seasonally normal skiing temperatures: in the 50s. Now off to ohio, where it sounds like its fairly cold and miserable. Sadly my 5000-lumen-headlamp-of-awesome™ hasn't arrived yet, so I'll have to play like regular night-o.

They busted out the big groomer to start packing some of the higher trails, so I did a loop up there, some of which were groomed and some were just tracked. Funny snow temps, some sections seemed a little too warm for the blue wax, while others were definitely too cold. Silly sunshine.

Warmer, with real wax today, which was awesome. Still well below blue wax cold in the shade, but the sunny parts were fine (and we have plenty of those) and the air was up in the high 20s. My back now hurts in many places after the weekend, though none really too bad. There's a pretty huge fire going somewhere nearby, so the close end of the trails was totally smoked in. You'd think two feet of snow would be enough to stop any sort of forest fire (controlled or otherwise), but its not.

Race #5 at SF state university. Lots of long legs one way or the other around buildings, nothing too exciting. Then again my back hurt quite a bit running this morning so I wasn't pushing too hard, so I had lots of map reading time which might have made it easier.
4 PM

skate ski 36:33 [3] 6.25 km (5:51 / km) +100m 5:25 / km

We got two feet of snow at home Friday night, so the ski areas got things cleaned up and sortof opened for today. We got back up to home an hour before they close, so I jumped out of the car, grabbed a random pair of skis, did the crappiest summer-wax scraping job ever and headed over to TD. Turns out yellow summer wax isn't the greatest when its 4 degrees outside, plus I had grabbed my race poles with tiny baskets that didn't stick in unpacked powder. So I had no glide or no pole push. But both times up the powerlines I could just do classic because the kick wasn't too bad. Then I froze solid and retreated to the hot tub. Time for real waxing and stuff tomorrow.
