Weekend adventure down to Monterey. Drove down Friday night, then stayed in literally the worst hotel I've ever been in. No bathrooms in the rooms, they were down the hall, and while the toilet-closet had a light, the shower-closet didn't. The room door had a locking handle, but you could have carded it with a paperback book. The window didn't open and it was a bajillion degrees. I would have said it was a crackhouse, except there was no furniture in the room to do said crack on. We barely got a couple hours of sleep.

Anyway then Saturday I did Vlad's four hour mtb-o rogaine, which was super fun. All the trails were tons of fun to ride, smooth sandy dirt - a few bottomless sand traps, but mostly really good riding. Knee didn't hurt, though it felt a little swollen and I backed off on the hills a bit on the second half when I was getting tired so I didn't stress it too much. Got about 2/3 of the controls, and finished third behind Jonathan and Mark.

Punching was via text message, which I guess added a new element to route planning, since every time I 'punched' it cost me $0.40. My super crappy phone is not the greatest at anything, typing or reception included, so it took a little while to get the hang of things and a reboot every half hour to get reception, but in the end I got pretty fast at it. And I only mistakenly texted a control code to Alex once.

Long mtb with Jonis through Prosser. I'm borrowing his mtb-o map holder for this Saturday, so I had that on there to practice. Had some ski-o maps of Prosser in there, which seemed easy enough to read without dying, though they were 1:5000. Not sure how 1:30000 is going to go.

Long blue. I got to prerun at 7, so it was nice and cold, which was awesome. Had a lot of fun on this one, not that I'm willing to go so far as to admit that on a long. Made a couple mistakes, didn't get over the first spur coming from 4, so I went way south into the saddle. And went too far left on 12, missed then trail in the middle, then overran it going up the valley.
