It had to start sometime. Woot. Lap around the lake. Yeah that lake. It was actually easier than I was expecting, at least for the trip around the lake. There were only two good climbs (Spooner Lake and Emerald Bay), and both paled in comparison to the first climb over Brockway Summit past Northstar just to get down to the lake. Spent some good quality time down on the aerobars when possible, which was longer than I expected I could for this early in the season. Stopped a couple times for munchies, this time I was trying out a pile of cliff / gu blocks that I've acquired from ski race freebies. They're good for the first couple, but after six hours of them they start to build into a heavy gummie bear rock inside your stomach. Good to know. Only had two water bottles, and never refilled them (all the water fountains are still turned off/frozen). Ran dry around Tahoe City, but didn't really feel too dehydrated, I just wanted more to try to settle the gummie bear block. Though in retrospect the scale says I lost 14 pounds, not even including the two bottles, so maybe I should have had some more. And finally, there are many many times when living at the top of a big tall mountain is totally awesome. Mile 103 is not one of them.
