ok I'm tired. Skate with Donatas, who finally got around to waxing his skis, so he was all fast and whatnot. I felt pretty trashed, and it wasn't helped by the rain or the 4" of corn slush on the top of the trail. It seems our snow can't really hold up to four days of 40 degree downpour. Don't get me wrong, we still have a couple feet, but its currently getting more dense and less solid. Sounds like its time to go to Sweden. Oh wait, they don't really have any snow...

the new WRE-approved gps logger, for comparison. close enough. had it hanging on a cord around my neck, but on the back.

dp of death day. trails were wet and slow, with a pleasant sort of wintry-mix falling from the sky, though at least during the worst of it I was high up on the mountain so it was all snow. one trail down in the valley they hadn't groomed in a couple days, the tracks weren't quite filled in but it was a bit more work than the rest of it. it just helped to emphasize the od part of the dpod.

So I go down to the grocery store yesterday, and while I'm browsing through the skis I find a pair of Fischer RCRs that were flexed at 110kg, which is basically unheard of. I've been looking for a pair of cheaper ski-o skis so I could stop breaking the expensive marathon skis, and these are all good. Don't know about this color though.

Anyway waxed them up a few times and took them out for a spin though a solid rainstorm, which turns out isn't so fun. They felt slow and heavy but that could be because they're brand new or because there was a couple inches of fresh slush on the trails. Also I just threw some old bindings on them, and turns out one of them had a loose toe pin, which was fairly annoying.

Hill intervals. These suck up here. Just to make sure I don't crap out going down the back side of hills, I timed it up the hill, across the flat at the top, and down a bit on the other side, which was undoubtedly the worst part. You either want to just stop and glide, pass out, or puke. Though usually several of those. I had no idea what to expect, so I just went flat out for the first couple, then decided I'd do 10 or until the times went over 2:00. Almost missed it on #6, but then trash talked myself back towards 1:50 for the rest of them.

skate ski long 2:15:36 intensity: (9:14 @2) + (1:33:58 @3) + (32:24 @4) 35.46 km (3:49 / km) +417m 3:37 / km

Conditions were pretty perfect this morning, we only got six inches yesterday, but it was from 1.5" of water (as opposed to the big storm two weeks ago, which was closer to 20:1), so it was heavy and packed down right away then froze up solid last night. But it was sunny and warm, and I figured it would get slow soon, so I bumped up this afternoon's long skate to right afterwards. It was good until about the last 45 minutes, then I was getting pretty tired and the sunny spots were getting pretty slow. Food or water probably would have been nice somewhere too. Also first 50k day of the year. woot woot. Even if it was pretty relaxed (after the hills anyway).

easy skate with Jonis and Jonathan. happily warm and sunny, though our snow is rapidly compacting. but at least the trails are getting more solid.
