Went down to Sacramento for a GCO meet. It was actually pretty good, if you ignore the spikey-dead-grass part or the head-high-thistles part. QR
map. The first half across the river was mostly open grass fields, made a mistake on 6 where I came to the river too far right, and then stopped short on 9.
Second half was an old gravel mine, which had lots of twenty foot berms of cobblestones, mixed together with high thickets of thistle and PO. In retrospect, a better route to 11 was probably north through the parking lot rather than by 17, up and down that rocky berm was super dodgy. Took a crappy route into 13, where apparently "you were supposed to know the green was thicker over there" and come in from the back side. Got stuck trying to climb out of the hole that 15 was in, the whole edge was green, so on the second try I just swam uphill through the thistle, which wasn't the most fun thing ever.
Started four minutes in front of Donatas, lost 3.5 of that by the halfway bridge crossing, then he got totally lost in the mine and blew 20 minutes. yea for navigation.
Sat around afterwards taking pictures of ducks for a while, then it got crazy hot, so I retreated home to my snowstorm asap. Speaking of which, I think I have to go skiing now.
