other (backpack) 4:00:00 [3] 8.0 mi (30:00 / mi) +1000m 21:36 / mi

Forsee Creek to San Bernardino Peak via John's Meadow. Bivied on the summit of San Bern East. Winds picked up around sunset, to the point that I couldn't stand up. Not too cold though, ~40 deg. Watched the forest fires burn all night, creepy and cool at the same time.

Note

so all of LA was kinda cloudy and gross today, which is normal I guess. but it wasn't until lunchtime when I noticed that it was snowing that I realized they weren't clouds, but smoke from one of the fires nearby. and it wasn't snowing, it was ashing. kinda creepy.

and if that wasn't enough fire fun for one day, I was checking the weather for the hike I was gonna do this weekend, and it looks kinda warm. and thats not even the same one thats burning here. now I gotta find some place else to go...

other (hiking) 4:00:00 [3] 9.0 mi (26:40 / mi) +1700m 16:48 / mi

up Mt San Gorgonio, 11501 ft in the San Bernadinos. started from 6000, uphill the entire way, more than a mile vertical. time doesn't include about an hour of rests and water filtering. also had a wonderful oxygen deprived nap on the summit for an hour.

run 2:01:00 [3] 9.0 mi (13:27 / mi) +-1700m 32:33 / mi

down the mountain. one 10 min stop to filter water, but straight joggin (even with a mostly empty daypack) the rest of the time. trail was a single track horse trail, so it was nicely graded almost the entire way. a few steep rocky sections here and there just for kicks.
