So this morning one of the giant dump trucks (of yesterday fame), sortof like this, dumped its dirt then drove away while it was still lowering. Then it caught a powerline over the road and ripped the wires off a couple telephone poles. Cue the arrival of every emergency vehicle in town. Its a regular clown show around here.

The construction guys rolled a 50' gravel truck on the road in front of our house, so most of the afternoon's excitement was watching them try to figure out how to get it back to wheel-side-down.

Also the game I was working on back in the fall for Disney, Dodo Pop, just came out (or android or win8 if you swing that way). Its pretty fun if you like that sort of thing.

I figured having the foot locked into a bike cleat was probably the least possible way I could roll it, so while everybody else was playing Wednesday night orienteering down at Prosser I wandered around all the trails.

Note

Ha did I call that yesterday or what. If my ankle fit in a ski boot I'd totally ski-o that crap. But seriously its more white outside now than it was for most of the winter. They closed the highway for half an hour and got out a snowplow.

ski-erg 30:00 [3] 6.7 km (4:29 / km)

ski-erg, because with the epic el niƱo of the century brewing out here, ski season is only weeks away. and maybe also because of the ankle thing.

run 1:05:07 [3] 4.71 mi (13:50 / mi) +285m 11:38 / mi

Oops. Went to run Animal, but got about a mile into it and had to take a dump, so I cut down through the woods to another parking lot that had a bathroom, but fell into a burned out stump and sprained my ankle pretty good (The controlled burns here burn out the stumps to a foot or two below ground level, but not completely, so they're still solid enough to support ground cover but not people, thus being invisible fun traps.) Figured I should run it out a bit, plus Carol was running in the other direction so I had a while before she got back, so I went around the short trail over the saddle and back down. Its fairly impressively swollen now, but still walkable.

Sugar Bowl to Alpine Meadows. With Carol for the first bit, then she looped back to play car shuttle extraordinaire. It was cloudy and a bit windy for the first part, then around Tinkers it was totally socked in and wet and windy and cold. Worst drought ever. But no thunder, and not long after that it cleared up a bit and was pretty nice. I had originally planned to come down one of the two Squaw trails, but was feeling good so I kept going to the five lakes trail down into Alpine. Didn't really have a good map of that part, so it was a couple miles (and a climb) more than I thought, but still ok. Felt good for the whole thing.

Anna's training course up at Boreal. Super fun, a couple hesitations in a few places, and one rock that I ran around a few times before I saw the flag, but pretty smooth.

Note

Picture dump. I finally finished going through all the photos from the yellowstone/moab roadtrip back in April. Yellowstone and Arches I spent a couple days in, the others were all drivebys.

Craters of the Moon
Yellowstone - 8 days, many critters, and an even gianter-than-normal camera lens.
Grand Teton
Dinosaur!
Arches - three days, many arches. and some night pictures.
Canyonlands
Great Basin - mostly underground.
