Super Sliders (ASC's super-junior program) ski-o. This was a pile of 3-8? year olds trying to hold onto a map and make the controls go beep beep. It was pretty awesome. Also the map is the greatest thing I've ever made. Crossbones finish controls are now in my default ocad symbol set.

ASC. Looks like the snow will hold out for our ski-o tournament of awesome on Sunday. Had a little rain last night then a hard freeze, after they groomed, so it was bulletproof corduroy out there.

ESOC middle distance. Many controls crammed onto a small map! First part was ok, went through the sprint terrain. Second part was a bunch of longish legs through the long distance area. Then some short ones, a trip by the arena, and then a crazy cluster of 10 controls out on a thinly snowy field. The tracks were hard to see with the cloudy flat light, so there was a lot of contour-orienteering going on.

Two rest days in a row, so Dad and I drove down to Engadin, hung out with Sandra and Marc and Matti for a bit, then went out for a longish ski along the marathon trail from Silvaplana to Pontresina and back. A couple inches of new snow, so it was fairly slow going, but it was pretty nice out.

skate ski warm up/down 45:00 [3] 3.0 km (15:00 / km)
shoes: 13 fischer rcr ski-o (109)

Warmup, which was a fair bit of just staying warm, because today's bag drop / quarantine schedule was weird. Fortunately it wasn't too cold, so not a problem.

ski-o! race 1:27:00 [3] *** 22.0 km (3:57 / km) +600m 3:29 / km
36c shoes: 13 fischer rcr ski-o (109)

ESOC long. Not actually too long of a long, and quite a bit of it was on skate trails, so it was quick and not too brutal. Snow in the woods was pretty junk though, the inside edges of my skis are completely destroyed from edging too hard on the half-inch of hard pack on most of the gravel woods trails.

Course had three loops, with only one or two longish route choices on each one. First one I probably took the wrong choice, not sure how much time that was worth, though not much I think. All the others I think I did ok on.

Pictures: Sharon at the model event, a field full of skio trails, Dad totally not about to break himself, and Adrian destroying gear. I have more from the real camera from today, but those don't upload through the phone.

ESOC sprint. Had the first men's start, 20 mins after the first women's start. So there were some tracks out there but nothing to follow, and certainly no cut throughs. Which sucked a little because the first third (really the only technical part of the course) was a nice sunny transformed hillside with six inches of powder on it, so perfect for straight lining all the legs. I went straight on a few, but went around on trails for most just to be safe, which really was only burning a few seconds on each one. Starters 2 and 3 caught up to me just before the dodgy stream tunnel, and I kept them in sight at least until just before the end.

Model event, trying to get the brain to think skio again. Half out in a big rolling field, half in the woods. The field stuff was straightforward and not too tough skiing, the woodsy stuff was pretty gnarly ups and downs. Plenty of snow, though on the scooter trails its been scraped down quite a bit by everyone so there are the occasional root or rock sticking through. Also saplings. Lots of saplings.

Made it Lenzerheide with all our stuff and people, then went out for a ski north out of town from the ski trail right in front of our hotel. Snow was greasy and fast and cold, which was unexpected given how warm it looked driving over here. Found the model map terrain and skied a few skinny trails (no maps yet), then decided it was about to get dark and headed back down.

ski-o! 5:00 [3]

there was totally some skinny trail flailing happening.

Note

To Switzerland this week for some skio. After slumming it all fall on ghetto airlines, it's surprisingly nice to be back to priority lines and tsa precheck. I think I've been spoiled.

Sunday morning marathon! Busted out the HF10 and got my climb on. Snow was nice in the morning, and I followed the warm snow up the mountain. Did a bunch of laps back and forth on the ridgeline, then looped a few trails on the way down. Though in hindsight I should have done a couple extras on the top and beelined back down, since the snow was super warm and gluey anywhere down from the top by 1pm.

Warm and gluey ddp around the flat parts. The snow isn't deep enough to till down at the bottom, so they're just packing it, which doesn't thaw well when its 55 degrees.
