Long blue. I got to prerun at 7, so it was nice and cold, which was awesome. Had a lot of fun on this one, not that I'm willing to go so far as to admit that on a long. Made a couple mistakes, didn't get over the first spur coming from 4, so I went way south into the saddle. And went too far left on 12, missed then trail in the middle, then overran it going up the valley.

Middle distance blue. Everything went pretty well, I ended up parallel to the controls by a few meters quite a bit, but I was always looking around at that point so never really ran past any. The course was kindof bouncy up-then-down-then-up-then-down on each control, so I didn't think there was ever too much good flow in it, but it was still plenty tough and fun.

orienteering race 16:29 [4] 3.5 km (4:43 / km)

Prerunning the blue a-meet sprint at Donner Lake to wake up all the controls.

orienteering race 39:44 [4] 6.33 km (6:16 / km) +106m 5:47 / km

Afternoon fun race at Burton Creek. Lots of loops on a forest 1:5000 map. Got a little confused in a couple places from the scale, overran a few trail legs. But pretty clean for the most part.

Score-o at Spooner Lake. 90 minutes, lots of hills. But I had a pretty solid route that did just about the minimum of climbing, so I was pretty happy about it. Will and I cleared them all, he was about 10 minutes faster.

mtn bike 1:32:26 [3] 11.34 mi (7.4 mph) +424m

Long mtb down through the valley. Found a bonus singletrack up a ridge that I thought connected with another unknown end I'd found, so I followed it up for a really long way. It hit one of the ski trail roads and ended, so I still don't know where the other one goes, but it was pretty fun to turn around and come back down. Knee felt a little swollen, but didn't hurt, though the mtb has the mini cranks so I don't really bend my knee anyway (which is what hurts).

Run down the creek and through the TD trails before it got too stupidly hot. It was still pretty stupidly hot already though. Found a new trail through the top of TD, so I had to run that out and back for the sake of the ubermap.

Out hanging streamers for the Northstar trailcross. Which sadly involved lots of required remapping, as its totally wrong in places (new roads, ski trail overpasses, tons of mtb trails, bonus Hyatt Regency?). But I only did the minimum required to pull off the event, which didn't really take that long. And at least it was really hot and dry outside.

Then I drove to the top of the mountain to hang a couple more. Super tired and bonked by this point, and I somehow managed to pull something in my upper back shoulderblade, which hurts a lot now.

Easy ride around TD to see how the knee is doing. Survey says: still broken. It felt ok until about 20 mins in, when I was on a flattish section in a big gear, and then it hurt for a couple strokes. I backed off and it didn't hurt anymore after that, even all the way up the hill, but still not fixed yet.

Checking out some of the map at Northstar for the trailcross/supergoat at the end of the month. Some parts of the map are pretty great, some parts are pretty terrible. It'd be a whole lot easier to set a normal course here, but I think it'll do just fine.

Yeah, I got one of these. Its pretty awesome. All my wintery bits are tired now.

UPS delivered it in a wicked beat up cardboard box, and part of the metal frame was bent where a bracket was supposed to go. Nothing a little persuasion couldn't get back into line, but I stripped a couple screws and a lot of paint before I got it to fit together, and single layer cardboard seems like a pretty bad packing job for a 60lb machine.

Note

no training today, outside was on fire.
photos from the weekend.
stormy on the long hike up on day 1, with mixed lightning and sunshine parts. this is like 500 ft tall and somewhat vertical - geologists: explain. this was our lake, not very big, but windy so the mosquitos were manageable. Friday's climb up Bloody Mt, all the rock was nice on the bottom and rotten on the top. Saturday we went swimming, which was wicked cold, and full of critters and critter eaters.
