hiking 2:00:00 [3] 12.0 mi (10:00 / mi)

Hiked up Mt Rose (10,700') from the pass of the highway. Seemed like a good enough peak to start with. Plus Mom had been up it and I hadn't, and thats just not cool.

Pretty solid snow cover on the north sides of the mountain, which is where most of the trail went. It was a couple weeks old though so the trail was totally packed in, and it was ice in a lot of places. Pretty windy up above tree line, so it got nice and chilly up there. Warm down in the trees though. photos

roller ski 1:01:00 [3] 16.6 km (3:40 / km)
shoes: v2 aeros #2

nice warm afternoon, about 60, and not windy at all. did two laps back and forth on the top end of Northwoods (didn't loop because the bottom part is crazy steep). road was still wet and sandy in places, but no ice left. this roller skiing stuff is downright easy when its light outside.

run 38:00 [3] 4.0 mi (9:30 / mi)

up and around Donner Ridge as a warmup, then back down to the car afterwards.

run 9:00 [5] 1.0 mi (9:00 / mi)

sprint/hill workout. not sure which one to call this, as it definitely wasn't as fast as track sprints, but it wasn't a particularly steep hill either.

I was going to do these on a flat stretch of the fire road along the top of the ridge, but it was windy as crap and cold up there so I went down and found a sheltered end. too bad it was a hill.

the first one I sprinted up for 60 seconds, jogged down, and did the same distance again:
60, 67, 77, 79
by the third one I was ready to pass out, and the fourth I felt like passing out and puking. so I started over with 30 seconds:
30, 31, 32, 32, 32, 33, 31, 27
that was much better, I could run mildly fast the whole way, and I didn't feel like passing out until I started jogging down each time. plus it ended up being about 2/3 the distance anyway (the end was steeper).

I think I'm actually starting to get acclimatized though, I can at least make it up the stairs in my house without getting winded...

run 24:00 [2] 1.0 mi (24:00 / mi)

jogging/stumbling down after each lap.

whats up with all this running crap? I need some more colors.
or it needs to hurry up and stop melting the night's snow every day.

run 53:00 [3] 6.0 mi (8:50 / mi)

working all day trying to get internet stuff setup (got it halfway there), so I didn't get out until dinner time. Did a loop around the main road (Northwoods), which is almost exactly six miles, plus a solid 500' of climb.

Got a couple inches of snow last night, but the sunny parts melted out during the day. Clear night out, and about 20 degrees, so lots of ice on the road to slip on.

Tuesday Oct 27, 2009 #

run 49:00 [3] 5.0 mi (9:48 / mi)

had to start "working" today, but got a run in the middle of the afternoon. across the middle ski trails at TD, then down the powerline to the far end, back up the ridge above euer valley, and back across. sunny and windy and snowing. I could get used to this.

Monday Oct 26, 2009 #

mtn bike 1:23:00 [3] 12.0 mi (8.7 mph)

second order of business: ride up my mountain. then down the other side, and around it, and back up, and back down. this stuff is pretty fun. I need a real bike.

Sunday Oct 25, 2009 #

run 1:05:00 [3] 6.0 mi (10:50 / mi)

first order of business: run up my mountain. and then over to my other mountain.

Saturday Oct 24, 2009 #

Note

drove up to Tahoe for good today with a car full of work toys.

rollerblade 54:00 [3] 16.0 km (3:23 / km)

felt ok, but I wasn't trying too hard

soccer 1:00:00 [3]

still ok, but again, playing very halfassedly.

Wednesday Oct 21, 2009 #

run 19:00 [3] 2.0 mi (9:30 / mi)

slow jog around the block. butt felt alright as long as I wasn't going uphill. ankle hurts a bunch (same crash as the butt) and the back was a little sore (from limping around the last two days). but I needed to go do something.

Tuesday Oct 20, 2009 #

soccer 30:00 [3]

pulled my butt muscle halfway through the game. wow that hurts.

Monday Oct 19, 2009 #

Note

More unpacking and watching it snow. Had a few inches by lunchtime, but then it turned to half rain and started disappearing. Almost gone by the time I left for Reno (which was good because I wasn't looking forward to driving the uhaul down the mountain in a slush fest). Flew back to LA for one more week down here (and to get the car).

Sunday Oct 18, 2009 #

run 1:40:00 [3] 8.0 mi (12:30 / mi)

There's a trailhead about a block down from the house that ties into a trail around the perimeter of the Tahoe Donner property. Really nice trail, mostly singletrack, steep in places, flat in others, all covered in pine needles. Some of it seems a little like running through people's backyards, but other parts are totally out in the woods. About an hour into it it started to get dark, and I didn't really know how long the loop I was doing was anyway, so I bailed out to a road and headed in the direction I figured was home. Then it start raining. Wow I live somewhere that it rains. How cool is that? I sortof recognized the street names from all the wandering I did looking at houses, but not enough to know how to get home. Especially in the dark. Wow I live somewhere that it gets dark. Real dark, not LA dark. How cool is that? Eventually hit a big road that I knew where it went, and followed that back. Started snowing towards the end, and was thoroughly frozen by the time I got home. Sortof guessing at the distance.

road bike 30:00 [3]

got up there early afternoon, found the house and the rental lady (who is swedish and awesome), got the tour, then started unloading stuff. got it all out of the truck and into the garage, then decided I was starving, so I went exploring and rode to the grocery store. I broke the front shifter cable on the mt bike last week on the way home from work (it was just old), so I had to do it all in one gear, but that wasn't too bad since it was on the road.

Friday Oct 16, 2009 #

Note

picked up the uhaul at 7 at night, then got to drive it across LA during friday night rush hour. that was fun. at least it was empty. took a couple hours to load it up, then headed north. drove just about all night straight, stopped for maybe two hours of nap in the middle. traffic wasn't bad after about midnight, and the uhaul wasn't too bad to drive as long as I was on the highway.

Thursday Oct 15, 2009 #

roller ski 1:04:00 [3] 15.7 mi (4:05 / mi)
shoes: v2 aeros #2

the road was still really wet and greasy, so mostly dp.

soccer 1:00:00 [3]

4" of dustbowl + 2 days of rain = sweet.

Note

also, this is awesome. at least as far as milk related reviews go.

Wednesday Oct 14, 2009 #

run 17:00 [3] 2.0 mi (8:30 / mi)

lazy run after work. it stopped raining, didn't last long enough to actually clean anything, just smeared around the oil on the roads a bit.

have most of my junk boxed up by now, driving it all north on friday night in a uhaul. hopefully the snow will be cleared by then...

Tuesday Oct 13, 2009 #

soccer 40:00 [3]

really raining today (first time since May I think, woohoo!), so most people wimped out. grabbed a ball and ran around the field a little bit anyway.

run 20:00 [4]

somewhere in the middle it started raining really hard and getting cold, so I either had to bail or start working harder. it looked brighter over the ocean so I figured it would only last a few minutes anyway. ran 16 sprints along the side of the field, not quite 100m, maybe 75?

run 46:00 [3] 6.0 mi (7:40 / mi)

so earlier in the week I was all set with a rental house (a sweet one that was two blocks from TD), then the guy randomly decided to sell it. so back to square one. but I think I'm close on another one, a little further away, but bigger.

run 47:00 [3] 6.0 mi (7:50 / mi)

spent most of the weekend boxing up my stuff. or starting to anyway, turns out I have a lot of crap. also just because you can fill a 2'x2'x2' box full of books, doesn't actually mean its a good idea.

also not sure if this counts or not, as I haven't officially moved yet, but ha!
