skate ski 1:31:00 [3] 18.5 km (4:55 / km)

a few inches of new snow in the morning, then we went out for some afternoon laps on the 160s. slow and tough.

Tuesday Dec 30, 2008 #

skate ski 1:05:00 [3] 14.0 km (4:39 / km)

Around the fields after cleaning up lots of sticks and branches out of the pines and upper trails. Very windy. Alex and Ed stopped by for a quick ski to oogle at daddyo's trails.

skate ski 1:11:00 [3] 21.0 km (3:23 / km)

Fast laps around the fields on the 160s. A bit colder since the morning so the trails were hard and fast. Fastest lap 3:06

Monday Dec 29, 2008 #

skate ski 1:12:00 [3] 16.0 km (4:30 / km)

Morning at Craftsbury. A lap around the race loop, then another around Ruthies. Snow was a little dirty, but not too bad.

skate ski 1:42:00 [3] 22.0 km (4:38 / km)

Afternoon, cold from stopping for lunch so it took a full lap to warm up again. Two laps of Ruthies and one around the race loop.

Sunday Dec 28, 2008 #

skate ski 31:00 [3] 7.8 km (3:58 / km)

quick morning ski before heading down to Manchester. warm and slow.

Saturday Dec 27, 2008 #

skate ski 2:13:00 [3] 35.0 km (3:48 / km)

A long ski in the morning before it starts raining. Trails were in good shape, even if it was above freezing.

Friday Dec 26, 2008 #

skate ski 1:03:00 [4] 18.5 km (3:24 / km)

Got plenty cold overnight, so it was nice and crusty and fast. Lots of fast laps around the fields.

skate ski 56:00 [4] 15.6 km (3:35 / km)

Late afternoon ski before dinner, mostly through the fields since it was dark. Still nice and fast.

Thursday Dec 25, 2008 #

skate ski 35:00 [3] 8.2 km (4:16 / km)

Waited all day for it to get cold and the trails to freeze up again. Then snuck in a few quick laps chasing dad around the fields before dinner. Icy fast and crazy.

Wednesday Dec 24, 2008 #

skate ski 1:00:00 [3] 10.0 km (6:00 / km)

Some morning laps in half an inch of new snow.

Tuesday Dec 23, 2008 #

skate ski 50:00 [3] 8.0 km (6:15 / km)

more in the morning chasing dad.

skate ski 1:00:00 [3] 7.0 km (8:34 / km)

afternoon ski chasing the dog, the niece, and the dad. not necessarily in that order. also hanging some controls.
got out the 160s. they're awesome. and not broken yet.

ski-o! 10:00 [4] 2.0 km (5:00 / km)

short ski-o course around the house

Monday Dec 22, 2008 #

skate ski 50:00 [3] 8.0 km (6:15 / km)

wow skiing on snow! Got up to VT yesterday after much drama: they canceled my flight from JFK->Burlington, but they had been doing that all day (and the day before and the day after) so there were lots of people in the same situation. The first flight they could rebook me on was for Wednesday (yea thats three days later) so I found a random girl in the baggage office who was driving up instead and hitched a ride up with her. Also since I arrived at the destination on the same day I was originally supposed to, technically this is one of my more successful plane trips in recent history.

Anyway a few laps around the house with Dad and Kenny. Very soft snow, and pretty cold.

skate ski 1:05:00 [3] 12.0 km (5:25 / km)

Dad regroomed everything to fill in the awesome trenches I had made, plus it was late afternoon so it was getting colder, so it was quite a bit more solid. Did two laps with dad, then another three by myself.

rollerblade 1:03:00 [3] 21.0 km (3:00 / km)

looks like Joshua Tree got a foot of snow in the last couple days. just missed it...

Monday Dec 15, 2008 #

Note

got a usb cable for the cell phone so I can get the photos from Canada last week. quality is amazing, must be that newfangled digital-zoom tech. The snowy bits are from the hike up to Wedgemount Lake and the waterfall is someplace along the road I stopped while driving back.

Also I tried to wax the new short skis yesterday but they're too short to fit on the bench...

hiking 2:00:00 [2]

In Joshua Tree, hiked a loop up some long sandy washes and along a ridge to Warren Pt. Back down the other side through some more sand pits. Then went over to check out an old gold stamping mill. Nothing too exciting, but more complete than a lot of the other abandoned stuff around there. photos

hiking 2:00:00 [3] 9.0 mi (13:20 / mi) +1200m 9:26 / mi

Hiked up to Wedgemount Lake in Garibaldi Provincial Park (just north of Whistler). Super steep trail, no switchbacks and all roots. Foggy and raining down low, but it turned to snow higher up. Lost the trail in a foot or two of snowfield in the last mile, and just headed up a mostly frozen stream. Cleared up a little around the lake, got some views of the glacier. Didn't bring the real camera, but I've got a few from the phone-camera, now I just have to figure out how to get them off it. Slipped on the deathtrap of snow+ice+roots on the way down and whacked my knee on a rock, its awesomely swollen and hurty.

Friday Dec 5, 2008 #

ski down hills 2:00:00 [3]

downhill at whistler. wet, sloppy and raining, with only a couple trails open. no snow at all down at the base, but took the gondola to the top and they had two of the higher lifts open.

Thursday Dec 4, 2008 #

run 49:00 [3] 5.44 mi (9:00 / mi)

Another morning run from the hotel, further south this time, then a loop up through the park from yesterday.

Wednesday Dec 3, 2008 #

run 1:04:00 [3] 7.11 mi (9:00 / mi)

Morning run from the hotel to "Central Park" in Burnaby. Did a few laps around there trying to figure out where all the trails went, which was hard given that it was pitch black. Only went ankle deep in water once though.

Note

travel day. yesterday too. Missed the original Sunday flight for Hartford -> LAX because of some snow, got on a plane to Chicago which was late, missed that connecting flight to LA, rebooked for a three hop flight Denver to San Fran to LA on Monday, but it would have got into after I was supposed to leave for Vancouver, so I slept on the floor in front of the gate for the first (only) direct flight to LAX in the morning so I was first to get added to the standby list (though I was actually 21st total), got the last slot that opened up, made it to LA in the morning, waited an hour and a half for the bus that apparently wasn't running on Mondays, got a cab home, picked up the passport, bus back to the airport (they were running the other direction), flight to YVR, long cab ride to the hotel, and then nap by 1am or so. good thing I didn't have to get up for work until 5.
