This rollerblade stuff is getting boring. I hope the pump parts come soon so I can get some air into the rollerskis.

LAOC meet at Tahquitz. This map is pretty small, and the field checked part is even smaller, so today they set up a Memory-O. The legs were pretty short, so you generally only had to remember 3-4 features to run them, but there was enough other detail in the way to be distracting. I seemed to do well at getting to my attackpoints, but on more than one occasion I forgot what feature the actual control was on. Only made a couple mistakes, all of them caused by me trying to run away from other people.

Also in the afternoon it rained. Real, visible droplet, clean-off-your-car sort of rain. And then some thunder and hail. Its been about four months since I've seen it rain. It made the five hours of driving totally worth it.

rollerblade 50:00 [2] 16.0 km (3:08 / km)

It was supposed to be a rollerski day, but I got up this morning (at 5 thank you) and tried to pump up the tires and it just wouldn't work. The nozzle on the floor pump wouldn't engage the pin on the schrader valves. I'm not sure whats wrong, all the parts are there and look ok...? Its not the valves, since they worked fine on the minipump (but there's no way I can hit 110psi with that thing without ripping the valve stems off). So I gave up and went rollerblading instead.

Note

also here's the game I just finished at the real job. mostly awesome because of the sweet song.

run (track workout) 6:00 [5] 1.6 km (3:45 / km)

My alarm is set for 5:01 am (I missed 5:00), and its been like that for a while so I usually just wake up a minute or two before anyway. So this morning I wake up to go to the bathroom at exactly 1:05, and sleepy dyslexic me thinks its time to get up. So I loosen up, stretch, read the news... the usual morning routine to get ready for whatever morning beating I'm in store for today. This morning's "coffee" was a slurry of Tang and Dr Pepper, which works wonders to wake you up at 5am, unfortunately it also works wonders at 1am too. So after about half an hour I'm up and loose and ready to go, and I notice it hasn't gotten light outside yet. It has been getting light later each day lately, but its not even thinking about it yet. And the moon is still out, which is weird because it was out when I went to bed. In fact its still in about the same position as when I went to bed. And why were my neighbors up still watching tv? So finally after all this I actually look at the clock and figure out that its not 5:30 but actually 1:30. I tried to go back to bed but that was hopeless, so I finished off a book, did some CF work, and finally headed out to the track at just before 5. Surprisingly the track workout felt really good (I could push hard through all four intervals) despite only three hours of sleep, probably because I'd been awake for four hours instead of the usual one. We'll see how things are this afternoon after work and a full soccer practice.

run 45:00 [3] 6.0 mi (7:30 / mi)

For some reason I thought it would be a good idea to go for a run at 2 in the afternoon. Good times.

Also today is round two of me vs the tamales. I asked around a bit and it was determined that I had probably done two things wrong: 1. I mixed up the tamale dough in the wrong order, and 2. I didn't drink enough tequila while I was doing it. Apparently both are very important.

palisades -> santa ynez canyon loop. I was dragging a little bit on the first half (the 1500' climb half), but after I rolled over the top of the ridge and dropped into the shade in the canyon things got quite a bit better. and a bit more downhill.

Skate laps! First hard skating since about April. This was a good workout (those are really fast times, 4:45 used to be "fast" for a skate lap), all that dp I've been doing must have been good for something.

rollerblade 44:00 [2] 13.0 km (3:23 / km)

slept in and got a late start today (9am), there were people everywhere! sometimes I forget how much nicer this city is at 5am. I turned around even before I got down to Venice, then went up to the long north parking lot where the mobs were thinner and did a few sprints.

roller ski 51:00 [3] 13.4 km (3:48 / km)
shoes: v2s #1

Got a late start anyway this morning, then found I had a flat tire on one of the skis (left front). Don't remember if it was the same wheel as a few weeks ago. Didn't feel like changing the tube, so I just threw on the spare wheel and left (then spent the next hour fighting a very misaligned left ski).
Felt really good all the way through, but it was late so traffic was getting bad towards the end, so I told myself if I kept the last one under 5:40 I didn't have to do a 5th lap. That seemed to work out ok, as thats definitely the fasted dp hill I've done yet.

mtn bike 2:00:00 [3]

I've hiked most of the nearby interesting peaks on the socal hundred peaks list, a lot of the rest are either far away or only 1/4 mile off the fire roads. So rather than totally cop out and drive up to the summits, I left the car on the highway and rode the mt bike up. Definitely less boring than hiking, especially when its this hot. Got up Pacifico Mt (7k), Roundtop (6k), and Granite Mt (6k). The last of which I actually had to hike up the last 1/2 mile, which was harder than it sounds, especially after riding up 3000' of very sandy fire road. Going down was a trip though.
