orienteering 1:00:00 [3] 3.5 km (17:09 / km)

window-o course. got lost a couple times, which I guess was bad since I was the one in front setting streamers. one we agreed was the maps fault, but another I might have mishung...

orienteering 25:00 [3] 2.0 km (12:30 / km)

setting streamers for memory-o. got them all in the right spot this time - except one that was in the right spot but the map location wasn't too clear because I didn't make clue descriptions... did almost all of the legs by memory, even though I had the master map with me.

orienteering 2:30:00 [2] 5.0 km (30:00 / km)

other (hiking) 3:30:00 [3] 6.5 mi (32:18 / mi) +1500m 18:49 / mi

up Alta Peak (11,200 ft) in Sequoia NP. Up the trail from Wolverton, pretty smooth and constant grade. great view from the top. stayed on top for an hour and a half or so.

run (down) 2:00:00 [3] 8.0 mi (15:00 / mi) +-1500m 35:56 / mi

dropped off the back side of Alta down a scree slope, then down the [open treeless rock] valley floor to Pear lake. Picked up a trail and jogged it down back to the trailhead.

run 35:00 [4] 4.0 mi (8:45 / mi) +300m 7:06 / mi

temescal canyon. felt really good today, and ran this much faster than I've ever done it before. forgot the watch so I don't really know how much faster, but it was a couple mins. totally dark by the time I got back down in the canyon.

orienteering 55:16 [3] 5.1 km (10:50 / km)

reran Mt. Pinos day 2 blue, controls 1-10. splits were about the same as before. I could run the legs faster since I'd already done them once, but I was extra cautious in the circles since there weren't flags out.

orienteering 58:12 [3] 5.7 km (10:13 / km)

reran Mt. Pinos day 1 blue, 4-5-6-7-8-1-2. really I just wanted to rerun 7-8 but the others were on the way. I think I had the worst possible route for 7-8 in the meet (~30min), so today even though I was tired I did the better route and came in at 17mins, which included getting lost (2 mins) in the circle.

Note

a great day, 70 and sunny, not humid at all. even cold at times in the shade with the breeze. a welcome change from LA. too bad the 80 mile drive takes 2.5 hours.

run 2:24:46 [3] 10.2 mi (14:12 / mi) +700m 11:42 / mi

up rivas canyon to the ridgeline, then north on the [mostly] open ridge for about 5 miles to a fire road. too that west across the head of the canyon to the next ridge, then back south to the beach. most of the climb was in the first 2 miles up temescal peak (~1800ft), super steep and brushy, had to walk a lot of it.
very hot (95 when I finished at 11am) and dry, ran out of water after about 7 miles. probably should have started earlier.

soccer 1:30:00 [3]

pretty hot today. got kicked off the field by a few hundred ten year olds at camp. found another one nearby.

Wednesday Aug 6, 2003 #

run 41:56 [3] 4.0 mi (10:29 / mi)

run 40:34 [3] 4.0 mi (10:09 / mi)

loop at temescal canyon. super clear day, you could see all of LA, including the mountains to the south and east. well ok you couldn't see the ground over there, but the mountains were above the smog
