DL rim trail to Warren Lake trail to the PCT. Skipped coming back over Basin and Castle because it was mucho windy. Nice fallish day, sunny and chilly. Felt pretty crappy from infinity firewooding yesterday, but it was still good.

Carol ditched us for the weekend, so we went for a boys run around the neighborhood with the stroller. James fell asleep so I had to do a second lap.

Nav-X 3hr at Boreal / Donner Ski Ranch / Castle Peak. This was fun. I knew part of the area pretty well already, and the new parts were cool. Got a little crampy towards the end, but I never really rehydrated well after yesterday so I lasted longer than I was expecting. I won, we'll blame it on the altitude.

More mapping and scouting at Boreal. Then decided to run up over the mountain to get back to the car cause it'd be awesome, so I did that part of the long course even though it didn't need it.

Along the way decided that ASC would be a crazy place for a one day multi-round sprint tournament, as the XC trails in the summer are a super dense pile of fast open plus giant boulders plus impenetrable slash, and a super detailed 1:4000 map would be really fun. Then decided that we should do that as part of the next naoc week here. Then decided that actually wouldn't work cause scheduling. It was fun for an hour though.

orienteering 2:37:31 [3] 10.01 km (15:44 / km) +303m 13:40 / km

Scouting and mapping stuff at Boreal for next weekend. Mostly running, but I had the ipad and stopped to update a bunch of stuff here and there - mostly veggies but also some giant rocks that appeared, I assume from recent glaciation or something. We're starting at the PCT end and running over the mountain to finish at ASC, and it's gonna be awesome. Super technical, and super great views.

Came through ASC at the end, which is hosting Dirt Bike Trials Nationals (or something like that) this weekend. Trails all through the ski trail woods, with tons of people (and kids) all riding dirt bikes up and over all the rocks and cliffs and stuff. I guess for time or style points or both? Lots of spectators and sponsors. Looked way more fun than orienteering, and I had no idea what was going on. Not a low-impact-forest event though, so I'm assuming they didn't need a forest service permit...

Also ran by one of the Boreal ski lifts. The entire base station is suspended from big pylons, and can be raised and lowered based on snow level. So instead of digging down through late season snowpack so the loading area is accessible, they can just raise the whole bullwheel up, by up to 15' or so it looked like. Pretty cool.
