Run with Carol out Tomales Point to see the ocean-elk. Saw a few on the sides as we went out, then found a whole lady-elk-posse where we turned around.

hiking 45:00 [3] 2.0 mi (22:30 / mi)

Hiking in to our campsite at pt reyes. Surprisingly hot, after we left 20 degree truckee in the morning.

Also we did a three hour or so barefoot walk on the beach looking for nonexistent tidepools, which made all my bits hurt.

Super duper windy outside, but the ground was all frozen so the dust was totally solid and very nice to rid.

Wilderness Scramble, aka 3-hour score-o, at Boggs. Felt ok for the first half, then got into lots of steep uphill part and was pretty tired by 2:30. Had to skip my third to last one from time, it had a giant climb through green to get to, which definitely would have put me overtime. Ended up fourth behind the three guys who cleaned it. Navigation was ok, I had a bunch of mistakes, mostly from just tuning out and not really reading the map. Got stung by a bee early on which hurt a lot for the rest of it, stabbed myself in the foot with a pointy log, and saw the most gigantic lizard/salamander ever (like an inch in diameter and more then a foot long, I thought it was a snake until I saw legs).

Blue middle down at Boggs Mt. Tried to run super smooth, which for the most part worked great. Made two little mistakes, both when I saw people, but most controls were right on without stopping. Finished 2nd, 15 seconds behind François and a little bit ahead of Mikkel.

GCO race down in Sac. It was a whole lot more fun than the previous two times I'd been there, probably because I've mostly figured out the never-go-straight rule, and also the course was fairly well set this time (as in, not buried in green). Had a bit of a mistake on 11 where I stopped short and then did a loop, and took a pretty bad route choice from 9-10 (forgot the never-go-straight rule). Not too hot down there either, and I'm probably only half covered in poison oak.

Easy toodle around the valley. A little bit smokey and a lot of cows.

Bought plane tickets for Hamilton, registered for Vlads sprint tournament (you all best sign up soon before the old people fill up all the tournament slots), and bought plane tickets to the harriman super relays weekend because they were the cheapest price I've seen for a cross country flight in a couple years (so hopefully it will happen, otherwise Carol and I are making our own event over there that weekend).

ahr:123 max:146 shoes: v2 aeros #3 wood cores baby!

As its now September and all, I should probably get around to this rollerskiing stuff at some point. Been putting it off because both pairs from last year got replacements, the V2s because I broke them in half, and the Niflheims because Ed made me longer ones. But I needed to move over the bindings and stuff to the new frames, which I've been not doing for a while.

Did that this morning, wearing a sizable hole in my palm from the stupid pozidrive screwdriver, but got the bindings moved over on both pairs along with all the other various bits of the V2s.

Then went out for an easy test ski down at Martis Dam to see if everything worked. After a couple days of crisp clear fall weather, the smoke came back yesterday, so not really a workout - just trying all the obvious things to break my skis/self. The new V2s are just the same, only a bit heavier from the wood core, but not noticeable. Though both skis were tracking right so that was sortof exciting. The new Niflheims are infinity times better than the old ones, these are 5cm longer so they go much straighter with my giant boots on them. They maybe could use another couple cm, but these at least I can skate in.

Also I managed to lose a pole tip on the first lap in the hot pavement, but didn't even notice until after I stopped to switch skis (that's how hard I was not poling). Found it on the next pass by though.

Laramie goat. Started slow for a couple controls, was running with Balter and Craig until I think 12, then got ahead for a couple controls until the big uphill leg, then never saw them again through the end. Finished second, quite a ways behind Graham. Spooked a big mamma moose and a big baby moose on the second to last control, they were running parallel to me through the field for quite a while until they got ahead.

Laramie day 5 I think. Mass start, one course with a shortcut. Almost totally clean navigation, though the map had lots of contours so that wasn't too tough. Started slow, but by four I think the order was Graham, Zhyk, me, JP, and Balter. Nobody was really making mistakes, though it sounds like Balter had some crafty contouring that got him a bit closer at times. Caught up to Zhyk going up the hill to 9, then he disappeared, not sure if he was cramping or altituding or what. We caught the shortcut course towards the end, so then there were some other people around for the last few.
