run 1:11:11 [2] 6.5 mi (10:57 / mi) +300m 9:35 / mi

Zuma Canyon. so I drove all the way out here (1 hr) before I figured out that I forgot my shoes. ran in tevas. wasn't so bad, just had to go a little slower (not a problem for me), although I don't think I'll make a habit of it. went swimming at the beach afterwards. actually got in this time dad, yes its cold.

run 25:24 [2] 3.0 mi (8:28 / mi)

on the beach (the path next to the beach) after work. ran from santa monica down to venice beach. it really does look just like tony hawk.

soccer 2:00:00 [3]

soccer practice at lunch. we drove down to a real field in Mar Vista. had a real swedish coach too. did some drills and then a game. its cool because we can't really get in trouble for playing too long, since my projects's programming lead, director, and VP, along with the company president, all play too. yea three hour lunch breaks.

soccer 1:00:00 [3]

soccer practice during lunch. the company has a soccer team, so I figured I'd come out and play around a bit. half the company is from England, so they're all real good. I'm not.

other (hiking) 2:00:00 [2] 12.0 mi (10:00 / mi) +1300m 7:29 / mi

all day. climbed Mt. San Antonio (10,064 ft) with andrew. started at about 6000 ft, went up a pretty steep fire road then trail, then across a knife edge ridge to the top, then dropped straight down the super steep scree side. more fun than a barrel of monkeys.

the top of the cloud (smog) level was right around 5000ft. so all you could see was the mountain we were on, everything else was below the clouds. pretty cool but sunny and hot. burned off all the sunscreen after a couple miles, so I give new meaning to the term redneck.

Note

so I was going to go for a run just north of Malibu, but I couldn't find the trailhead, so I went to the beach instead. almost as good.

run 38:21 [2] 3.8 mi (10:05 / mi)

moring run at Kenneth Hahn SRA. checked out the far end of the park, a couple long dirt roads by some oil wells. definitely going to map this place.

run 41:30 [2] 4.0 mi (10:23 / mi)

Kenneth Hahn State Rec Area. Stopped after work to run around and check it out. A big open field in the center with some scattered trees, and a whole bunch of side hills down that are super steep. Definitely a possibility for a parko map, especially since its only 4 miles from home. Lots of winding trails and stuff. Does look like a place the mob would drop bodies though, considering its bordered by a bunch of sketchy oil wells.

orienteering 1:33:27 [3] 8.0 km (11:41 / km) +220m 10:16 / km

Mt Pinos Blue day 2
Much better race than yesterday, avoided all the hills and things went a whole lot easier. no big mistakes, maybe two or three 1 minute errors in the circles.

orienteering 1:53:52 [4] 8.5 km (13:24 / km) +480m 10:27 / km

LAOC Mt Pinos A-meet
Super bad route choice on one leg, created a whole lot more climb for me. Tired after that so I made a few more mistakes, but smaller.

other (hiking) 2:00:00 [3] 18.0 mi (6:40 / mi) +1300m 5:27 / mi

Half Dome in Yosemite from the valley. Fun with cable climbing. Took all day.

other (hiking) 1:00:00 [3] 4.0 mi (15:00 / mi)

Various view points and little outcroppings in Yosemite, just killing time so I could go sleep in the car somewhere. Just in case there was any doubt, this place is awesome.

orienteering 1:23:17 [3] 6.5 km (12:49 / km)

Red course at Townsend SP. NEOC club champs. Kinda green and thick and wet, good thing I had shorts on.

run 1:29:21 [3] 9.5 mi (9:24 / mi) +400m 8:19 / mi

Mugu Peak. Guessing on the distance, going to have to measure it off the topo when I get back. I think I covered every type of terrain possible with this one. Started in the canyon bottom, climbed up some steep rock trails into thick green veggie stuff, then out into a high valley grassland for a while, then up to the top of Mugu Peak which was kinda cactus and desert like, then back down some more steep stuff. Views ok.

run 1:01:08 [3] 6.2 mi (9:52 / mi) +350m 8:23 / mi

Topanga Canyon SP. Did a loop from visitors center up to Eagle Rock and back. all above "tree line" (scrub line) so lots of good views. High dusty desert, trail was either exposed rock or cracked dirt. visibility was alright by normal standards, but by LA standards they said it was crystal clear.

run 1:24:15 [3] 6.0 mi (14:03 / mi) +400m 11:38 / mi

trail run from Will Rodgers SP just north of santa monica. did a 2 mile loop around the park. its also the terminus for the Santa Monica Backbone trail, which runs for 80 some miles. Ran up that a ways, guessing from the USGS topo I got afterwards that I went about 2 miles out (+1200 ft vertical). Very cool canyons and stuff. Views would have been really good if the fog visibility wasn't 50 ft.
