Orienteering race (Australian Middle Dist) 38:15 [5] **** 3.51 km (10:54 / km) +117m 9:21 / km
spiked:13/16c shoes: Inov8 Oroc 350

A great new area near Bungendore, with nice granite on a large ridge. An average run with a poor start. Slow to 1 then 4 minute+ error at 2. Settled after that although 5 was slow also. Only other error was at 11 where I drifted too high and found (but didn't punch) another control. Relocated but lost at least a minute. Hopefully got rid of the mistakes ahead of the Relays at same location tomorrow.

Briohny convinced me to do the Pomingalarna run with the Roadies crew. Haven't been out for several months but enjoyed the run and the chat, especially with fellow Hawks man Angus! Legs didn't like the hills much but maybe good training for the weekend.

Lap of the Lake plus a loop out to Plumpton Rd to add a little more distance. Cool and gusty breeze was an annoyance but still a good hit out.

Orienteering race (Australian Long Champs) 55:17 [5] *** 6.86 km (8:04 / km) +175m 7:09 / km
spiked:14/17c shoes: Inov8 Oroc 350

Slap Up Creek map, a combination of open farmland and undulating forest with lots of granite outcrops. Not overly difficult nav but still a couple of errors that cost me about 2 minutes all up. First mistake at 4 where I went too far right and lost about a minute. Good through to 8 where I missed it low, surprised with 4th quickest to 9 going straight rather than track option. Got confused by small green near 12 stopping short then OK through to the finish.

Had hoped for top 10 today so 7th was a good result considering my lack of fitness and, on top of my 6th in the Sprint yesterday, meant a good weekend. Looking forward to Middle and Relays next weekend.
