Travel and sightseeing day: Vilnius to Riga.

Running 46:25 [3] 8.8 km (5:16 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 12

Morning run from the hostel in Vilnius in between rain showers. Similar start to Wednesday but didn't go up the hill today. Instead crossed over the Neris River and ran along the pathway on the northern side. Ran under a couple of bridges and then crossed back over again and came back on the southern side. Pace was again up on previous runs although still a way to go and haven't tried any sprinting.

Deb also went out and did about 30 minutes without too much discomfort in her knee.

Note
(rest day)

A break from running but plenty of walking! We caught the train out to Trakai, about 35km from Vilnius. It is a small town build at the centre of about 5 big lakes and is a very pleasant place. The centrepiece is a restored castle that was first build in about 1400. Being in Europe, it has been destroyed and rebuilt a number of times but fell into ruin in the late 1800s before a lengthy restoration program spread over about 90 years.

Just as we got back to Vilnius, a wild storm hit: mostly wind with a little bit of rain.

Running 42:45 [3] 7.4 km (5:47 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 12

Morning run from our hostel. Started with Deb who has managed to buy an elastic bandage for her knee and it seems to help a lot. I moved ahead and ran thru the nearby part of the old city area into a large park along the river and then climbed up a very steep hill and over the top. Down the other side towards the "new" city and then looped back to the park and did a couple of laps before heading back to the hostel. Happy with the run which makes 3 in 4 days and a bit more confident of fitness ahead of Scotland in 10 days time. Deb managed 30 minutes will not too much discomfort so that is good too.

Note

Spent the day walking around the old city of Vilnius. I hope the local orienteers have a sprint map of this place as it is great with lots of alleys, winding streets, bridges and passageways.

Running 34:45 [3] 6.3 km (5:31 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 12

Early run in Warsaw. Similar to Sunday but went into the park a bit sooner and only did the one lap as was a little pressed for time with a late morning flight to catch. Felt really good and pace was (marginally) quicker than previous efforts. Saw 4 other runners today which was encouraging after seeing many early morning smokers out too!

Deb didn't go out as her knee is somewhat troublesome. Hopefully a bit of rest will help otherwise Scottish 6 Days may be difficult, especially given there is a 4-5 km walk from parking to assembly on day 5.....

Running 43:55 [3] 7.7 km (5:42 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 12

Morning run in Warsaw. Started with Deb from our hostel and ran the first km with her but her knee is playing up and she told me to go on ahead. After 2 kms arrived at Skaryszewski Park and there did 2 laps of the main internal road before heading back to the hostel. Park was very pleasant and really quiet with only a few people walking dogs and one other runner. Again, no dramas with legs and time a little quicker than Friday.

Deb made it to the park and did a short loop before heading back at a slow jog/walk.

Note

Deb and I hired bicycles in Warsaw and spent a leisurely 4 hours pedaling around the city parks and gardens as well as going into the old city. One stop was to see and hear the end of an open-air Chopin piano performance in the Botanical Gardens. Massive crowd gathered around a lake, sitting amongst the roses and trees. Very impressive.
