Orienteering (Club training weekend) 1:30:00 [3] 2.5 km (36:00 / km)
shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw 270

Putting out controls at Buckenderra for this afternoon's training exercise. Set an Orange's and Lemon's (thanks GrantM!) in a nice part of the map that allowed easier controls and route choice for beginners whilst still giving the more experienced folk a good workout.

Orienteering (Club Training weekend) 30:00 [3]
shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw 270

Short terrain walk-through with training camp participants to familiarise ourselves with the area and the mappers methods. Found a rather spectacular orchid as a bonus!

Orienteering 45:00 [3] 2.5 km (18:00 / km)
shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw 270

Collecting controls after Oranges and Lemons exercise. Had assistance from Jonathan, one of our newer members, and shadowed him for part of this, to help with his technique. He is fit and fast and tended to "race off" without really checking. Also helped him with his compass work.

Orienteering race (Training camp Night O) 30:00 [3] ** 3.2 km (9:22 / km)
spiked:13/15c shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 11

Night O on the Buckenderra Village sprint map. In short: a disaster! After good start thru to 3, I came unstuck in a big way on 4, in fact I didn't find it at all! It was on a boulder on the edge of the camp villas but I lost my way badly coming out of 3. Thrashed around amongst the rocks in the dark but eventually gave up. 5 was no better and ended up back at 2 to relocate. After that: no problems with the next 10 controls!

Orienteering race (Street O) 44:25 [4] 7.79 km (5:42 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 11

Summer Series #9 in central Wagga. Briohny took us on an historical tour of central Wagga, with just about all controls being plaques and building signs, generally with historical slant of some kind. One of our older (founder) members reckoned he could answer half the questions without leaving the start!

I opted to do a loop around the outside with the aim of getting all the higher scoring controls but missing the lower scores near the middle of the map. Got around OK and managed to get the win despite running at a reduced pace due to what is becoming a very annoying hamstring.

Running (Long) 1:31:40 [3] 16.0 km (5:44 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 11 2nd pair

Morning long run with Briohny from her place. We headed up Willans Hill at the start and it was hills for most of the first half as we headed south across Tolland ridge and then Tatton ridge to the top of Hilltop. Second half much easier with downhill and flat running but got very weary in the last couple of kms. Good to get another long run in and nice to have company (and someone to clear the spider webs!!)
