Orienteering race 44:08 [3] **** 3.5 km (12:37 / km) +140m 10:30 / km
spiked:8/10c shoes: Silva K80

QBIII day 1. A very bad start, missed 1 by about 4 mins, then settled into a good run through the rock until 9. It was hiding in the green and missed it by what must have been a few metres! Scratched round for a couple of minutes and Bingo! there it was. Unhappy, but ended up only 2 minutes down in 3rd.

Running intervals 22:00 [4] 4.0 km (5:30 / km)

Intervals session on Nelson Drive (aka Boat Club Rd). Decided it was time for a bit of strength work. Only a gradual incline but enough to make you work a bit harder. Ran 8 x 1 minute repeats (well about 1 minute as I couldn't read the display on my borrowed watch) at a bit faster than my normal (slow) race pace and then jogged back down the hill.

Orienteering race 1:05:50 [3] **** 6.6 km (9:58 / km)
spiked:5/8c shoes: Silva K80

Waggaroos-Albury Interclub #2 at Burngoogee. A really nice run in the forest after the rain. A bit slow to the first couple then hit 3 OK and a bit high on 4 in the rocks. Got 5 and then unfolded my map... where is 6? Instead of a 2.0km leg to 6 I had just 600m and in the wrong direction!

At these events we mark our maps pre start time. I had put mine down briefly and then must have picked up the map of someone doing the short course (same first 5 controls so didn't twig earlier)! So... I ran the last 3 legs from memory. Got them all OK but was a bit slow trying to remember where I had drawn the circles. Good map memory exercise I guess.

A wild storm (mini cyclone or something like that) had ripped through the map just before #6, snapping fully grown stringybarks like twigs and ripping others out of the ground. Glad I wasn't around when it happened. Went back later and took some photos: will try and work out how to post them here.

I think this is how it works:
