Running long 1:24:00 [3] 14.3 km (5:52 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 11 2nd pair

First serious long run of the year and a hilly one!. From home thru Tatton and then up along the spine of Willans Hill to Leavenworth Dr, then down and out thru Glenfield to Red Hill Rd, back down to Jubilee Pk and then up to Hill Top and around the back and along the Tatton Ridge track, then a loop back along the lower track and onto the streets and home. Slowish pace mainly due to the hills but felt pretty "good" the whole way.

Morning lap of the Lake with Briohny (Trent, Deb and Darcy also there doing their own things!). Briohny said she would be slow but I couldn't keep up with her early on:-) Nice run, a good overall pace and many many people out in the cool of the day.

Street O in central Wagga. Struggled with a few of the questions so didn't cover as much ground as I had hoped although running was pretty solid. Hot and windy conditions none too pleasant!

Running 43:58 [3] 8.0 km (5:30 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 11 2nd pair

Morning run in the forest near Lake Moodemere just outside Rutherglen. Was very nervous about this as we saw a guy walking around with a rifle just as we arrived.....thankfully he got into his van, gave us a wave and drove off almost straight away!

Again started with Deb and we ran together for about 2.5km then she turned around and went back to the car. I continued on and completed a loop of about 5km which took me back to the car. I then did another 3km out and back at a faster tempo to finish.

Running 39:40 [3] 6.8 km (5:50 / km)

Morning run in Rutherglen. Ran with Deb for abt 3.5 km then she turned off back to our motel and I did an extra 3 and a bit km. Nice way to start the day!

Orienteering race (Street O) 44:05 [4] 7.9 km (5:35 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 11 2nd pair

Return of our Street O series: today's event was re-scheduled from early December, that was washed out due to a torrential downpour. Very much the opposite today with temps around 34C at 6:00pm.

Nice course by Trent from his and Briohny's house in Urana St. Tackled the hilly section up towards the Botanic Gardens early then headed west to the flatter areas. No major problems apart from a poor route choice to 14 and then not orientating my map on 3 (actually had it 180 degrees around!!) so was looking on the wrong side and wrong end of the street. It was the last control before the finish with time running out so just kept going.

Note

Wednesday comp golf: 38 points ind stableford. Much better today but still room for improvement, esp with the putter although no 3 putts. Missed very makeable putts on 16, 17 and 18 (16 and 18 for birdie). Lost 0.3 off handicap but stay on 14.

Running 36:45 [3] 7.1 km (5:11 / km)

Had intended to do a longer run however I got stung/bitten on the eye last night (by what I don't know) and it swelled up quite alarmingly and was not good early this morning. Second hit of antihistamines helped a lot so headed out later than planned and it was pretty hot so only did a short run.

Note

Golf 4BBB with a mate from Cootamundra. 43 points was OK and we combined quite well except for 2 holes where we both had 1 pointers. Well and truly beaten overall however with 2 teams scoring 52 and 5 others 50.

34 points myself including 2 wipes and 1 birdie. Driving better than Wednesday but still erratic.

Running 52:10 [3] 10.03 km (5:12 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 11 2nd pair

Afternoon run around the Lake in the light rain, which was nice. Rain and breeze kept the temperature down, so quite pleasant for running.

A first today: I got swooped, no that should be head-on attacked, by a DUCK! About 3 kms into the run I saw a duck with a very young brood about 30m in front of me crossing the path. Next thing I knew mother duck was flying straight at my face. I managed to "duck" out of the way but she had another go as I veered off the path and again missed me. Mark that one down to experience!

Cycling 45:30 [3] 15.5 km (2:56 / km)

Afternoon ride on the new mountain bike. Finally splashed out and got something a bit lighter than my old one and this has front suspension too :-) A little different riding the newby but will soon get used to it.

A very windy afternoon and made to work hard into the wind a couple of times. Semi-regular loop around the Lake and into Rawlings Park where I did a couple of loops then home again.

Wednesday Jan 12, 2011 #

Note

Wednesday Comp golf: 36 stableford points so played to my handicap but was 3 under with 5 holes to go, then lost my way on 14 to 17, dropping 4 shots. Strung together 8 pars in 9 holes from the 5th (bogie on 10) and another par on the last, but 2 wipes took the gloss off. Back on Saturday for a 4BBB.

Cycling 36:00 [4] 13.75 km (2:37 / km)

Afternoon ride just before the rain. Very windy but cooler after a hot day. Had intended to go for a long run this morning but had some digging in the garden to do, so did that early to avoid the heat.

11 AM

Running 24:25 [3] 5.0 km (4:53 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 11 2nd pair

Mid morning lap of the Lake with Briohny. Pretty warm but we ran at a good pace. Did not quite make the full lap as we met Deb who was walking Darcy, so walked/jogged the last 500m.

Running 40:00 [3] 7.65 km (5:14 / km)

Back into training after my annual New Year's sojourn to the Sydney Test (very depressing it was too!). Steady morning run around the Lake, feeling the effects of the excess food and drink consumed at the Test and after.

Running 25:10 [3] 4.85 km (5:11 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 11 2nd pair

Morning run after quite a late New Year's Eve! Needed to get out reasonably early as it is going to be hot again today. Later on, Deb and I got taken for a walk by Darcy whilst Briohny did a lap of the Lake!

Start of a new year and my primary goal is to try and stay injury free. To do that, I think I need to do more cross training, and particularly strength and conditioning (yes, Pilates Briohny!!). Need to get back into the habit of a weekly long run too. I want to have a solid fitness base for our planned overseas trip in July-August (WMOC and Scottish 6 Days) so will be building towards that, using local events for training and focus on technique.

Happy New Year all.
