Orienteering 2:00:00 [3]
shoes: Helly Hansen Trailcutter

Collecting controls after NSW Champs. No storm today :-)

Judging by the comments we received, most enjoyed the weekend and the area. To all those asking about next use, apart from some Waggaroos club events, it will likely be for the 2011 Oz Schools Individual and Relays, with accompanying public events.

Orienteering 2:00:00 [5] ****
shoes: Helly Hansen Trailcutter

Collecting controls in a thunderstorm and downpour (thus the 5 for Intensity!!) after NSW Middle Distance Champs. At least it stayed dry for the event which, by all accounts, went really well.

Putting out SI units for tomorrow's Middle Distance. Brilliant day in the forest, not so sure about tomorrow however...weather is closing in :-(

Physio this morning on hammy/trapped nerve. Not a lot of progress so she decided to try something different and stick needles in to me!!

Its called dry needle acupuncture and it is supposed to relieve the tightness round the muscles. Only really hurt when she moved the needles around but a bit sore now. Also suggested I have a break from running which will be OK as most of the work at the weekend will involve walking only.

Running 1:09:00 [3] 13.4 km (5:09 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 10

Afternoon run out through Rawlings Park to Mitchell Rd, Silverwood Rd and back into Rawlings, then home the way I had come. No energy at the beginning but started to pick up after a couple of k's and decided to keep going a bit longer than originally planned. Warm and decidedly humid this arvo after last night's rain.

Putting out controls with Deb for NSW Middle Distance Champs next weekend. Magic morning in the forest before it turned a little bleak after lunch. Forecast at this stage is for 21C next Saturday!!

For those APers coming next week, Start Lists and Event Info is now on the Waggaroos site at:

New Asics Nimbus 11's arrived today from Wiggle UK online store. Only ordered them last Saturday, delivered free and $70 cheaper than here in Wagga. Sorry Mr Rudd!

Running 38:10 [3] 7.0 km (5:27 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 10

Steady afternoon run from home to BBQ shed at Apex Park and return. A few unwelcome niggles in right thigh, hopefully just soreness after Sunday.

Physio this morning and pretty sore after she used her elbow (felt like it anyway but was probably just her thumbs) on trapped nerve in my lower back! I'm sure she recommended I have another rest day (or maybe I am just lazy!)

(rest day)

In Sydney for a meeting today. Decided I needed to stretch the legs a bit after yesterday so walked from my hotel at Crows Nest to the meeting venue in St Leonards in the morning (about 2km) and then from St Leonards to North Sydney in the afternoon (about 3km) before jumping into a taxi to the airport.

Running race (half marathon) 1:54:55 [5] 21.13 km (5:26 / km) vdot: 38.4
shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 10

Wagga Trail Marathon relay: I ran the 3rd and 4th legs (or half marathon) with Trent and Deb on 1st and 2nd legs. 3rd leg was tough with 2 big hills, 4th was downhill to start then pretty much flat for the last 9 kms.

Weather was cold and damp, but still OK for running. Pretty happy overall considering my very limited preparation.

Orienteering 2:30:00 [3]

Tagging and checking for NSW Middle Dist.

Running 15:00 [3] 3.0 km (5:00 / km)
shoes: Helly Hansen Trailcutter

A short run on forest tracks after Middle course checking. Just a leg stretch really, ahead of the hilly second half of the Wagga Trail Marathon tomorrow.

Managed 18 holes as part of the Conference arrangements at Yarrawonga. Played with a couple of the sponsors. Very nice afternoon after foggy morning on the Lake.

Running 30:10 [3] 6.0 km (5:02 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 10

Short run out Plumpton Rd and back home after work, just to freshen the legs up, and because I will be in Sydney tomorrow, early and late flights!

Orienteering race 1:13:13 [5] *** 8.7 km (8:25 / km) +170m 7:40 / km
shoes: Helly Hansen Trailcutter

ACT Badge in Kowen Forest. First time I have run a full event in pine forest for a couple of years. Really enjoyed the course but a few more errors than I would have liked, probably about 4-5 minutes all up, most notably at 2, 7 and 10. Fitness was pretty good, even running up most of the hills. A can't believe Darvo ran under 62 minutes, and that on a dodgy knee!

Thursday Aug 6, 2009 #

Running 45:10 [3] 8.0 km (5:39 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 10

Afternoon run up onto Willan's Hill from home. Ran through to Baden Powell Dr and then return. Four fairly big hills in this one, the first of which is about 1.5km of long steady climb, the remaining 3 short and steep. Happy with the way in went up all of them today although time isn't flash. Starting to stay lighter longer in the evenings now though almost dark when I got home at 6:00pm.

Tuesday Aug 4, 2009 #

Running 38:40 [3] 7.5 km (5:09 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 9

Afternoon lap of Lake Albert from home. Steady run, right hammy a bit sore after some "rough" treatment at physio this morning. Seems I have a trapped nerve but she certainly found it!! Still tight and catching but have some exercises to work on.

Thought I'd earnt it after the weekend.

Sunday Aug 2, 2009 #

Running 1:37:45 [3] 18.0 km (5:26 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 10

Sunday morning long run with Briohny from her place and around central Wagga. Going well for the first half then tiredness from yesterday's efforts started to hit. Managed to keep going the whole way but my pace dropped a little in the last 3 kms and Briohny headed off in front.

Orienteering race 21:45 [4] **** 3.3 km (6:35 / km)
spiked:19/19c shoes: Asics Gel Cumulus 9

Sprint race at CSU. Being just 90 minutes after this morning's long run, my legs were a little fatigued and didn't want to go up the hills! Nice course and I navigated well (helps to have mapped the area!). Very cold, probably because I was wearing a couple of layers less than earlier.

A big weekend for me, just over 34kms in 2 days, probably the most running I have ever done in that time!

Saturday Aug 1, 2009 #

Running warm up/down 12:00 [3] 2.2 km (5:27 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 10

Ran from home to the Boat Club for Roadies. I thought the long here was about 8.5 km but turned out to be 10.8km!

Running race 50:29 [5] 10.8 km (4:40 / km) vdot: 43.5
shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 10

Long course at Roadies, a full lap of the lake plus a loop out to Plumpton Rd, past the golf club and onto the track in the drainage reserve, back out to the Lake then back to the Boat Club. Surprised and happy with the time here as I was expecting around the 5 min/km mark. Right hammy still dodgy even with compression shorts - physio beckons I think.
