Running 39:30 [3] 7.5 km (5:16 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Cumulus 9

Morning run at Wollongong along the path above the beach and through bushland. Started with Deb for first km then picked up the pace a bit. Really nice morning for a run.

Running 39:40 [3] 7.3 km (5:26 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Cumulus 9

Run after work in Cootamundra. Found a nice bike path outside the motel and then onto the road out to Temora Rd and a bit further before turning back. Dark by the time I got back but a good run.

Orienteering race 56:32 [4] *** 5.7 km (9:55 / km)
spiked:8/9c shoes: UK Gear PT03 trail

Interclub v Albury Wodonga at Livingstone. Nice course, with plenty of climb and a couple of tricky controls with limited attackpoints. Pretty physical, crossing the main ridge 4 times! Legs were a bit heavy after yesterdays long run but had a good run, happy especially with routechoice to #1, beating Briohny by 1 minute (which meant she only beat me by 3 minutes instead of 4 overall....). Lost probably 2 minutes on silly error on #3 but the rest were good.

Needed the earplugs at the Finish as we were right next to the Rifle Shooters. For the record, Waggaroos won the day 13-12 and now lead series 2 zip!

Orienteering 45:00 [3]
shoes: UK Gear PT03 trail

Helped pick up controls after the event. Some how I got allocated the ones of the steep main ridge, but I could drive out close to most and ran a couple of short loops to collect.

Home in time to listen to the Hawks make it 9 from 9! Very annoyed it wasn't on TV: Prime and Austar both carried the Lions-St Kilda game which is stupid!

Running long 1:21:31 [3] 16.0 km (5:06 / km)
ahr:142 max:158 shoes: Asics Gel Cumulus 9

Went out to Roadies at CSU with Deb and Briohny. They both did the short course (3.5km) and then Briohny and I ran home. The run took us across North Wagga flats, Wiradjuri Bridge and then along the river onto Kooringal Rd and home. A good hit out and longest run for a few months. Used to solo training so nice have some company today.

Running intervals 14:00 [4]
shoes: Asics Gel Cumulus 9

Intervals on Nelson Drive in the rapidly failing evening light. 4 sets of 450m with 2:35 jog recovery between: 1:30; 1:28; 1:29; 1:28. Times about the same as last couple of attempts. At least I'm not gettng slower!

Running warm up/down 22:00 [3]

On the way to and home from intervals

Running 48:30 [3] 9.0 km (5:23 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Trabuca trail

Pommy run with Briohny after work. Started 10 minutes earlier but still almost dark when we got back. A good run at a steady pace and not at all cold. Met a couple of the early guys coming back as we headed off and a couple of the very late guys (with torches) heading out as we got back.

Orienteering race 1:01:54 [4] *** 6.1 km (10:09 / km) +245m 8:27 / km
spiked:12/14c shoes: UK Gear PT03 trail

Much improved run on yesterday. 3rd place today, 25 seconds off 2nd but almost 8 minutes behind a flying Nick Wilmott.

Error on long first leg, near control which was annoying. Got slightly distracted by another runner - not even on my course - and ended up stopping short. Probably lost about 2 minutes. No more errors and pushed hard (to try to make up for #1), however #5 did not appear to be in the right place (map was wrong, confirmed by most others on course) and was a bit lucky to spot it, at least 50m south of where it was shown on the map. Probably lost a minute but others lost considerably more!. Good right through to #11 where a mis-read of description cost me about 30secs and then OK to the finish.

Orienteering race 56:22 [3] **** 4.2 km (13:25 / km) +140m 11:30 / km
spiked:13/19c shoes: UK Gear PT03 trail

State League at Karli's Rocks. Nice course but I butchered it! First half was good but had trouble on 10 and 11 (3 min total) and then 14 (3 min) 16 (30 sec) and 18 (30 sec). New shoes were good but that was about all that was!

Tomorrow must be better! At least the Hawks won...

Running 50:00 [3] 10.1 km (4:57 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Cumulus 9

Late afternoon run out past the boat club, around the end of the Lake and on into Rawlings Pk and return. Haven't been this way since before Easter so nice for a change. A solid pace the whole way without setting any records, no effects at all from the head cold - being "reasonably" fit helps to get over these things I think.

It was almost dark when I got back so daylight running out fast as we head to the Winter Solstice. Looking forward to that day, as that's when we fly out to Europe for WMOC and WOC!

Note
(sick)

Didn't make it to Pomingalarna to day. Woke up with a stuffy head cold, so thought it best to stay in. Hopefully ok for a longish run after work tomorrow ahead of the SLs in Orange this weekend.

Tuesday May 13, 2008 #

Note
(rest day)

Didn't get home until 6:00 and it was too dark (and I was too weary) to head out. Save it for Pommy tomorrow arvo.

Running 30:45 [3] 6.1 km (5:02 / km)
shoes: UK Gear PT03 trail

A short run after work to test out the new PT03 trail shoes I picked up last week (wore them over the weekend but no running). Felt pretty good, a little rigid perhaps but I think they will be good in the terrain.

Leeton Pro-Am Golf Tournament day 2...also excellent, apart from cold, foggy start at 7:30am.

Cycling 20:00 [3]

Had to bring a car home from work for trip tomorrow so left my car then rode back to pick it up. Gees, Lake Albert Rd is a highway at about 5:30pm! Hadn't been on the bike for ages and it felt like it. 20 minutes hardly counts as training but I gunna log it!

Running 47:54 [3] 9.0 km (5:19 / km)
ahr:132 max:152 shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 8

Pomingalarna loop with Briohny after work. Again met the early runners coming back just as we started. A bit cold and windy today but a nice run at a good pace, quite a bit faster than 2 weeks back. Seemed to go up the hills really well today - Briohny had to slow me down on the last one! Maybe I found them easy after Nail Can last weekend.

Running (Recovery) 23:00 [2] 4.5 km (5:07 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Cumulus 9

In Deniliquin for work. Got to town about 5:30pm so raced out for a short run to try and get some stiffness out of the legs after yesterday. Was pretty dark so jogged to a nearby oval and just ran steady laps (8 in all) then back to the motel. Felt a lot better for the effort.

Running race (Nail Can Hill run, Albury) 56:23 [5] 11.3 km (4:59 / km)
ahr:144 max:159 shoes: Asics Gel Trabuca trail

Nail Can Hill. Cold and very foggy at the start, but good once we started. The gentle slow for the first 2 kms was deceptive... the big hill is very steep and have to admit to walking a bit (I could walk faster than I could run!). Hit the top at around 20 minutes and the undulating section across the top was good and picked up the pace.

Didn't notice the distance markers until 8km which was good as I knew I had a bit left for the downhill. Was motoring nicely but got stopped for about 30 secs for traffic on the highway which was VERY frustrating, as had to build the momentum again (and thought it would cost me the 5 minute km/rate but just scraped in anyway). Finished off well along the river. Briohny was there will a drink which was most welcome.

Running race 15:45 [4] 3.5 km (4:30 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Cumulus 9

Road Runners at CSU Winery. Ran the short today as tackling Nail Can Hill run tomorrow morning. Pushed out pretty hard and was surprised to be able to maintain the pace, even up the long hill. Good hit out and by far the quickest I have run in a long while.

Running 49:00 [3] 9.4 km (5:13 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Cumulus 9

Ran with Briohny from her place along Urana St and Glenfield Rd up to the track between Hilltop and Bourkelands and then along the ridge back to Red Hill Rd. I then headed south along the lower track and home whilst Briohny did the big climb over the top of Willans back to her place.

Great conditions and a really enjoyable run. Briohny pushed me along at a fast pace (for me) which was good. Picked up a passenger (Labrador dog) that followed us along the Bourkelands Ridge and then followed me almost to home. Was a bit like peak hour up on the ridge with lots of people walking, exercising dogs, even a girl reading what looked like study notes!
