5 PM

Running 39:40 [3] 7.5 km (5:17 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 11 2nd pair

Afternoon run in Albury after meetings all day. Very sluggish to start but picked after a while.

Running 1:01:00 [3] 12.0 km (5:05 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 11

Struggled through a morning run. Just couldn't get going today and felt very tired. Perhaps one too many glasses of red last night? or maybe it was the curry we had after watching the AFL grand final anti-climax!

Running race (Road Runners) 37:45 [5] 8.0 km (4:43 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 11

Roadies again at San Isadore. Handicap day but I went out early as we were going to a friends place to watch the AFL. A bit difficult to pace myself without anyone else around but got into a good rhythm and was again pleased with the way I got up the hills. About 5 degrees warmer today so expected my time to be well up on last week but very happy with just 2 seconds slower!

6 AM

Running 41:00 [3] 7.8 km (5:15 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 11

Morning run around the Lake and home via Lansdowne. Foggy again but not too cold. Met Spokesy and his border collie near the Boat Club and we ran together and talked until the bridge at the northern end of the lake.

Thursday Sep 23, 2010 #

Note
(rest day)

Bit slack this morning: woke up and looked outside to see thick fog so back to bed! No time in the afternoon with some essential shopping and then out to a function.

Orienteering (Sprint training) 17:35 [4] *** 3.1 km (5:40 / km)
spiked:17/18c shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 11 2nd pair

Decided it was time for some Sprint training so set a course at CSU. Briohny came along for the run too to give me some competition and keep me working hard (I had to start first as usual!) Not too difficult and hit them all pretty well with the exception of the 2nd last one where I ended up on the wrong level in the building but only lost a few seconds. Straight line distance was 2.8km, Garmin measured 3.1km.

A nice fun hitout and managed to hold Briohny off by 15 seconds but she had some leg trouble again:-(

This is a nice map, better now that the new buildings have been added, but I don't know when we might be able to use it again for a bigger event.

Running 51:20 [3] 10.0 km (5:08 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 11 2nd pair

Afternoon lap of the Lake from home. Started out with Briohny and we ran the first 4km or so together, then her leg started to cramp and she stopped to stretch, insisting I keep going. I did the full lap and back home via the Boat Club. A slight interruption when a friendly dog decided to run with us instead of it's owner so we had to stop and take it back!

Cycling 45:20 [3] 15.25 km (2:58 / km)

Afternoon cycle. Back to my original loop around Lake Albert, Rawlings Pk, Brunskill and Mitchell rds and then back into Rawlings Pk and home via the Boat Club. Haven't been on the bike for quite a while and felt it in the knees today!

Orienteering race 53:10 [5] **** 5.6 km (9:30 / km) +180m 8:11 / km
spiked:12/13c shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw 270

Club event at Shockeroo Track. This is a really nice area (across the road from Burngoogee where we held the NSW Champs last year). Unfortunately, Forests have declared it a Flora Reserve and only let us use it for club events, so no real point in re-mapping. Still at 1:15000 which is always a challenge with my eyes!

Started well hitting 1 to 5 with no issues and in reasonable time. Navigated straight to where 6 should have been but no flag on the boulder? Spent a few minutes looking nearby but there was no more rock so went back to the big gully then started looking further north and found the flag about 150m away. By this time Briohny had apparently been and gone (she started 2 mins behind me). No more problems but a little slow on some of the climbs (legs a bit weary after the last few days). Was very surprised to see Bri at the finish and she well and truly cleaned me up. Still a very enjoyable run with the forest looking great, if a little wet underfoot.

Orienteering 55:00 [3] 4.7 km (11:42 / km)
shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw 270

Collecting controls after todays event. Mostly the same as the course earlier but managed to muck up a couple - lacking the focus of the race earlier I guess.

Running race (Road Runners) 37:43 [5] 8.0 km (4:43 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 11

Roadies at San Isadore. Did the long today and was really pleased with the run. A little tight at the start after yesterdays effort but soon loosened up and felt strong on the first big hill and not too bad on the second. Managed to stay in touch with Belinda: slowly catching her on the uphills but she was too fast on the flats and downhills.

Running (Long) 1:15:30 [3] 13.7 km (5:31 / km) +170m 5:11 / km
shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 11 2nd pair

Long afternoon hills run. A new route: from home to the hill above Tolland, down Leavenworth Dr and along the easement through Glenfield to Red Hill Rd, back to Holbrook Rd, then up to the top of HillTop and along the ridge behind Bourkelands before back home along Atherton.

A cool afternoon and didn't take any water but luckily found a tap at the Glenfield Scout Hall. Felt pretty comfortable all the way, even up the hills.

Running (Hills) 49:30 [3] 8.5 km (5:49 / km)

Nice hilly run with Briohny on Willans Hill. A bit chilly to start but warmed up OK as we went along. Another good session today.

Exercise bike 30:00 [3]

Had intended to go for a ride but was raining (again!) so opted for the exercise bike.

10 minute warm up then did 4 x 3 minutes hard and 2 minute recovery for the next 20 minutes. Legs burning by the end of the last hard section but felt good otherwise. Only downer was my iPod battery died halfway through!

5 PM

Running 38:40 [3] 7.8 km (4:57 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 11 2nd pair

Afternoon run around the Lake from home. Steady warm up to the Boat Club road then lifted the tempo and tried to maintain a faster pace for the remainder. Felt good but pretty tired when I finished. First run in my new pair of Nimbus 11's although I bought them about 3 months ago! Super cushioned ride!

Orienteering race (NSW Long) 1:11:03 [5] **** 5.6 km (12:41 / km) +140m 11:17 / km
spiked:10/13c shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw 270

My bad habits returned today with big errors on 4 and 5, and a smaller one at 6. Apart from that, was quite happy with nav and running although still down on fitness.

At 4, climbed the steep slope from 3 then must have run wthin 5 metres of 4 without knowing, thinking I had to go further south. Ended up doing a full loop around the large rock feature before returning to the other side of the control feature. Lost a full 5 minutes here! Worse on 5, running too far west and away from cliff line. Ended up more than half way to 6 before stopping. Took a while to relocate then got it easily on the way back but lost 7 minutes (both times against GrantM's splits). Overran 6 by not reading the bare rock. From then on, no major problems. Ran behind (further and further!) GrantM from 7 through 9 then he was much to fast for me.

Orienteering race (NSW Middle) 40:17 [3] *** 4.6 km (8:45 / km) +155m 7:30 / km
spiked:14/17c shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw 270

A pretty good run by my recent form. Still managed a couple of stuff-ups: hitting 8 before 7: only a short leg so only cost me about 2 minutes, then silly error at 12, stayed too low and missed the shallow gully where the control was, probably another minute here. Darvo caught me here and we stayed pretty much together until the last couple when he was just too fast. Lucky enough to grab 3rd behind Darvo and GrantM.

Running 39:30 [3] 7.4 km (5:20 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 11

Afternoon run in Leeton. Managed to avoid the rain.

Wednesday Sep 8, 2010 #

Note

Managed to fit in comp golf today. First time in about 3 months! 35pts in individual stableford, 15 on the front and then 20 on the back! Only missed 2 fairways with driver going very well but very ordinary greens in reg, with just 2! Greens were difficult as had just been cored and sanded but generally putted well.

Running 27:25 [3] 5.25 km (5:13 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 11

Late afternoon run in Deniliquin. Just needed some exercise after a day of sitting down driving or in meetings. Stayed away from the usual forest run as I though it would be a bit wet, so a semi rural loop through the 5 acre home lot area of Deni.

11 AM

Orienteering race (Score event) 45:05 [5] *** 6.7 km (6:44 / km) +150m 6:03 / km
shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw 270

Club event at Pomingalarna. Went anticlockwise where most went the other way. Was pretty happy with nav and fitness although twice over the main ridge was hard work, especially on the way back when I was running short of time.

Got all but 2 controls but a minor error on the way back cost me 30 seconds and meant I was 5 seconds late!! So lost 5 points to end up on 135 and 5 back from Briohny:-)

Pommy starting to look better now that the 4WD and motor bikes are locked out, with some nice regeneration on the tracks, aided by lots of tree plantings.

Running race (Road Runners) 24:30 [4] 4.6 km (5:20 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 11

A very wet Saturday and only 14 fools turned up for Roadies but Briohny and I were amongst them (apparently it has never been called off in 25 years!).

Only did the short course and once we got started it was OK, just very wet and muddy underfoot. Briohny and I ran together which was fun.

5 PM

Running 24:55 [3] 4.9 km (5:05 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 11

Short afternoon run down the Boat Club, along the Lake and back home via Lansdowne. Back still a bit tight even though I had been to the Chiro today.

Thursday Sep 2, 2010 #

Note

Had hoped to get a run in but day trip to Narrandera and then essential grocery shopping meant it was almost dark when I got home, so a no show! Might have to start looking at morning runs now it is getting lighter earlier.

Running 1:20:30 [3] 13.8 km (5:50 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 11

Later than planned long run with Briohny after I got home from 2 days in Albury.

Started from Briohny's house with lots of hills in the first half on Willans Hill, along the track behind Tolland and then on the Marathon track at the back of Bourkelands and up to Hill Top. Then downhill and flat for most of the second half down Mangoplah Rd, Glenfield Rd and back to Briohny's house. Dark and light rain by the time we finished.

Longest midweek run I've done in a long time but really enjoyed it, had a chance to have a good chat with Briohny and no injury worries (touch wood!)
