Running 41:15 [3] 7.7 km (5:21 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Cumulus 9

Steady late afternoon run in Sydney after a meeting at St Leonards.

A long day that started at 5:30am. Drove to Albury for 8:00am meeting then flew to Sydney at 10:00am for the St Leonards meeting.

Hopefully will fit in a longer run tomorrow as we are due to finish around 4:00pm.

Running 43:00 [3] 8.2 km (5:15 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Cumulus 9

Morning run in Hervey Bay to get the stiffness out of the legs after the weekend. Out quite early but still warm and humid.

Orienteering race (Australian Relays M45A) 34:14 [5] *** 5.0 km (6:51 / km) +140m 6:00 / km
spiked:9/12c shoes: UK Gear PT03 trail

M45A Aust Relays with James Lithgow and Mel Cox. I ran 2nd leg and had a pretty good run although missed #1 by about a minute. Vague on a couple of others but generally OK. Miss Jones caught me at 3 where we were both sightly off line, then her speed and fitness should have seen her run away from me but I kept meeting her again, especially after the crossover.

Managed to catch more than 3 minutes on Tim Hatley running for Victoria, but I think it was his error not my fast running! That put us close enough for Mel to run down Neil Barr and take us into 2nd place behind a very fast QLD team.

Orienteering race (Australian Long Champs) 1:14:14 [5] **** 7.4 km (10:02 / km) +255m 8:33 / km
spiked:11/14c shoes: UK Gear PT03 trail

A bit of a disaster today. Made a flying start and got through 1-7 with no problems - splits showed I was in 4th place at 7. Stopped short on 8 and eventually relocated but cost me about 6 minutes. 10 was worse time wise - at least 8 minutes - and I somehow managed to NOT punch after having a drink. Own fault, no one else around and broke my rule of punching first then drinking! Steady for the rest except 12 where again lost time. Didn't matter as the miss at 10 made me a mp.

At least I got back to town in time to watch the Hawks wear down and break Geelong in the Grand Final :-)

Orienteering race (Australian Sprint Champs) 15:48 [5] *** 2.6 km (6:05 / km) +20m 5:51 / km
spiked:18/20c shoes: Asics Gel Cumulus 9

Aust Sprint Champs at Maryborough Showgrounds. Well set up area and event. A pretty good run for 4th place with no real problems but was very uncertain between 1 & 2 and then a poor route choice 7 to 8. Together these cost me more than 30 seconds and possibly 2 places.

Running 27:00 [3] 5.2 km (5:12 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Cumulus 9

Short run with Briohny in Maryborough to freshen up after the flights from Wagga and Sydney. Blowing a gale which made it hard work up wind (probably not technically a gale but the pilot told us that the winds were 40kph when we landed at Hervey Bay earlier!)

Wednesday Sep 24, 2008 #

Note

Rest day - although walked about 6km pushing a bag full of mostly metal objects and hit a small round ball way too many times.

Tuesday Sep 23, 2008 #

Running 24:50 [4] 5.0 km (4:58 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Cumulus 9

Short afternoon run down to the Boat Club and along the Lake front and home via Landsdowne Ave. Quite a bit cooler today after the rain overnight but I don't think it will last.

Monday Sep 22, 2008 #

Note

Rest Day: had planned on an afternoon run but the brown muddy rain was too much of a disincentive!

Sunday Sep 21, 2008 #

Note

5 hours mapping

Running race 40:11 [4] 7.9 km (5:05 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 9

Road Runners at San Isadore. I had to force myself to take it easy on this run as Briohny had convinced me to run home (another 12 kms) afterwards. A pretty warm day and a hilly course helped so a fairly slow time.

Note

45 second break to have a drink and throw on the Camelbak, then off again.

Running 1:06:00 [3] 12.0 km (5:30 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 9

Run with Briohny from the Finish of Roadies to home via Waradjuri Walking Track. Hard work as it was getting a bit warm and the run through Silvalite is all uphill! Glad Briohny was there to keep me going.

Note

Watched Hawks cruise into GF next week with a comprehensive win over the Saints (and Buddy only kicked 1 goal!). Sorry Stk66...maybe next year.

Orienteering (Intervals) 32:00 [4] 4.7 km (6:49 / km)
shoes: UK Gear PT03 trail

Sprint Orienteering intervals at Willan's Hill with Briohny and Deb. Briohny set two loops - part bush, part park - lots of fun and some good training (at last!)

1st loop: 2.2km, 15:30 - a couple of small errors (and some map changes - need to update), so a bit slow.
2nd loop: 2.5km, 16:30 - much better navigation and only slowed down so as to not scare an Echidna between 10 and 11.

Running (Warm up) 5:00 [3]
shoes: UK Gear PT03 trail

Short run from Briohny's house to intervals. No warm down, just a few stretches.

Wednesday Sep 17, 2008 #

Running 45:50 [3] 9.3 km (4:56 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 9

Afternoon run out Plumpton and part of Rowan Rds, then back home. Needed a run after 5 hours in the car driving home from Sydney.

Orienteering race 1:25:27 [5] **** 5.8 km (14:44 / km) +200m 12:34 / km
spiked:9/15c shoes: UK Gear PT03 trail

NSW Long Champs at Wattle Ridge, near Hill Top.

Started cautiously and had trouble reading the map for some reason. A bit wide on 1 and 2, good to 3 then major error at 4 (6-7 minutes). Started to get into the map - ie reading contour detail - but still slow to 5, then it all came good, with only minor errors at 11 and 13. Although I made errors I still managed to move fairly quickly through the terrain, so happy with my general fitness, and managed to make up some lost time.

I expected to be well down but finished 4th (20 minutes behind Rob V but only 8 behind Nick Wilmott in 2nd), so others clearly faired worse than I. Managed to get one back in the "great ice cream battle" with GrantM but I fear he is too far in front!

Although quite "green" I enjoyed the area and it would be really good on a dry day.

Running 43:00 [3] 6.8 km (6:19 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Cumulus 9

Easy paced afternoon run with Briohny (and Deb for part) around - not over - part of Mt Alexandra at Mittagong ahead of NSW Champs tomorrow. We got a bit mixed up with the tracks and ended up doubling back few times but nice out in the bush, although a bit warm and humid.

Thursday Sep 11, 2008 #

Running 37:35 [3] 7.1 km (5:18 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Cumulus 9

Afternoon hills run from home into Bourkelands and back via Red Hill Rd. Climbed the big ridge between Tatton and Bourkelands twice on this run, plus a number of short, sharp hills. Tried to push hard up the hills. Back a little sore again today and right achilles tight after I cooled down.

Tuesday Sep 9, 2008 #

Running 29:55 [3] 5.5 km (5:26 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 9

In Albury for Schools ICT Conference. Managed a short run between end of day 1 and picking up conference delegate from the airport. Still very stiff from Sunday's long run - probably needed a recovery yesterday but couldn't fit it in.

Sunday Sep 7, 2008 #

Running 1:34:55 [3] 18.0 km (5:16 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Cumulus 9

Father's Day morning long run with Briohny. Out along Plumpton Rd to the hill, through The Glen to Mangoplah Rd and then turned around and came back. A bit faster coming home as it is more downhill. Felt pretty good all the way, with just a bit of soreness in both hips. No back trouble which was good. Thanks for dragging me out Bri, good to have some company on long runs.

Saturday Sep 6, 2008 #

Note

5 hours mapping again today. Great weather so didn't mind at all being out in the forest. No shooters around (yet).

Friday Sep 5, 2008 #

Running 37:15 [3] 7.5 km (4:58 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 9

Afternoon run around the Lake. Started well and had intended to try go for about 50 minutes however soreness in lower back forced me to cut it short.

Tuesday Sep 2, 2008 #

Running 43:10 [4] 9.85 km (4:23 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Cumulus 9

Fastish (for me) afternoon run in Wollongong after driving down from home. Here for a couple of days for work meetings. Ran north along the coastal cycle/walking track from my hotel in Stewart St and back again. Lots of people out running, walking or cycling.
