Orienteering race 16:02 [5] * 2.1 km (7:38 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 8

WMOC Sprint Qualifier in Leiria. A great map and course through the old town. I read it really well and was very happy with my time which placed me in equal 20th and thus achieved my first goal by qualifying for the A Final.

Orienteering race 21:43 [5] * 2.3 km (9:27 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Cumulus 9

WMOC Sprint A Final in Praia de Veira. Started well in the town section but then lost 2 minutes on the first forest control. Sand running very difficult but managed to get the remaining forest controls OK except 12 where I lost about 30 secs. Back into the town and next 2 OK but disaster at 17 with a 3 minute error on a 25 sec leg! Finished OK but well down the list.

Event: WMOC 2008

Orienteering 35:00 [2] ****
shoes: UK Gear PT03 trail

Model event at Marihda Grande. Walked the first 3 or 4 with Deb to get the hang of the area and mapping, then ran a small course of about 10 controls. Happy with navigation in the complex terrain except for one instance of turning a large depression into a large hill - note for future reference: look for the slope tags! Running in the sand is going to be a challenge.

Running 1:01:30 [3] 10.5 km (5:51 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 8

Morning run in Lisbon. Did the first 15 minutes with Deb then she turned around and went back to the hotel. I kept going for another 10 minutes to the top of a hill, did a couple of circuits through some nice parkland (next to the Gaol!), and then headed back down to the hotel.

Really enjoyed the workout and put some needed kms into the legs ahead of the weekend. Weather looking decidely on the hot side!

Running 33:30 [2] 4.2 km (7:59 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 8

Afternoon jog/walk in Singapore with Deb. Spent the morning on the tourist trail - nice city, like it much more than HK.

Temp not too bad but humidity a killer! Good to get the legs working again after the flight from Sydney. Won't get another chance until probably Tuesday in Lisbon.

Heading out to the Changi Museum tomorrow. My uncle and Deb's garndfather were POWs there - both survived fortunately. Fly out for London/Lisbon late tomorrow night.

Running 35:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Gel Cumulus 9

Managed to fit in a run in Sydney just before it got too dark. Ran from the hotel in the city down to Mrs Macquarie's Chair and then did another loop of the park. Quite dark but good street lights and lots of other runners out and about. Good to stretch the legs after an all day meeting and another one coming up tomorrow.

Running 57:00 [3] 9.8 km (5:49 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Cumulus 9

Sunday longish run. Felt pretty low on energy and chest still congested, plenty of disgustiing spitting - must remember not to do that next weekend in Singapore - but managed to get some kms under the belt. Brilliant winters day with brigh sunshine and a light breeze, great for running.

Running race 21:28 [2] 3.75 km (5:43 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Cumulus 9

Road Runners at Rawlings Park. Finally back running, although took it really steady as the km rate indicates! Ran most of the way with Deb but she outsprinted me at the finish! Good to get a run under the belt afer a weeks break and will hopefully get out again tomorrow.

Note

Finally went to the doctor today and he tells me there is nothing wrong!! No chest or throat infection, despite me coughing up chunks of yellow goo! Take 2 panadol 3 times a day, that will be $60 and I'm still coughing! No wonder I don't go to the doctors!

Thursday Jun 12, 2008 #

Note

Out at Deniliquin for work. Still not up to running but another 30 minute walk along the river was at least a bit of exercise.

Wednesday Jun 11, 2008 #

Note

This cold is hanging on and getting very annoying! Did a 35 minute walk around Willan's Hill and then went to Briohny's for dinner.

Note

QBIII Day 2: Rest day (sick). Decided not to run today due to chest cold and cough. Want to shake it off as we head OS in less than two weeks.

Got a bit of exercise walking 1km to the start and return twice as "clothing return" for Deb and Briohny.

Event: QBIII

Orienteering race 35:06 [5] *** 4.1 km (8:34 / km) +40m 8:10 / km
spiked:11/15c shoes: UK Gear PT03 trail

QBIII day 1 at Wild Deer Sands (??). Wasn't feeling that great due to chest cold but decided to run as hadn't been on this map before. Started OK but had problems at 2, 3, 6 and 10, mainly through not reading the map correctly. Looking at the splits, I reckon I probably lost about 4 -5 mins all up (but I'm sure others lost time too) .Slowed down towards the end and got passed by a couple of other runners. Nice technical area and course was good.

Friday Jun 6, 2008 #

Note

Rest day: (sick) - cold that I thought I had beaten came back to bite. Better now than in 2 weeks when we head OS to WMOC etc. Might be a slow QBIII this weekend.

Wednesday Jun 4, 2008 #

Running 35:00 [3] 7.0 km (5:00 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Cumulus 9

Late afternoon run with Briohny from her house into Willans Hill and then streets. Was not at all certain I would make it today as I developed a head cold last night and woke up feeling none too good, but it cleared enough for me to enjoy the run and chat.

Sunday Jun 1, 2008 #

Running 36:40 [3] 7.4 km (4:57 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Cumulus 9

Morning run at Bateman's Bay, along the waterfront and down past Catalina Country Club (nice course) to Batehaven and return. A bit cooler than yesterday but nice for running. Again ran with Deb for first km or so. Right thigh tightened up a bit, not sure why. OK when I cooled down.
